If you don't have eggs to fish I would recommend small spoons and spinners in gold and silver, they represent smolt and fry and cutthroats feed on those. Also nightcrawlers will work well. Something that isn't legal to fish but cutthroats love mud dobbers or "sculpins" I'm not saying to use them but eek but they can work. rolleyes Anyhow goodluck!

I fish the N Valley quite a bit. I use a couple power bait eggs (red) and half a night crawler. If plunking I add a marshmallow to this.

Usually good for a limit of 16-18 inchers.

Remember if you are using bait and are planning to catch and release. All fish caught on bait must be added to the daily limit wether you keep them or not. And it is illegal to continue fishing after catching a limit. I strongly recomment you use small lures with barbless hooks.
You might also want to check the regs to see if that river has wild cutthroat release..

Usually I spin fish for salmon/steelhead but for cutthroat I always fly fish. They attack flies very aggresively. If you decide to fly fish these are the basic rules I follow. In freshwater use a spruce fly or a knudson's spider. Keep moving until you catch a fish. Continue to fish this area because where there is one cutthroat there will be another. That's basically it and when you get into cutthroat, the fishing is good.

Try a small pink jig maybe as small as 1/16th oz.
