The 1025 is a great all around rod. It would serve you well as a bait casting rod. As far as I know it only comes as an 8'6" rod though. There is a 1084 9' rod that is very nice, but I have only seen it in an IMX blank from Loomis. There are other blank manufactures (rainshadow, pac-bay) that make this rod blank in less expensive version. It would give you a little more length for bobber fishing and it works great as a drift rod also. I have a rainshadow 1084 and love it. It casts very nicely and allows you to cast a littl further, a little easier than you can with the 1025

Check for posts by TH. He builds custom rods and has blanks for sale, including Rainshadows. I visited his website the other day, and it seems like a good way to go, after my little Kunans go TU (tits up).

Hope this helps. Andy

The 9' 10-20# that Cathcher1 is referring to is the STR 1086C. I have fished this rod for springers plus I have fished a 1025 IMX for a few years now. If you are primarily focusing on steelhead I would stick with the 1025 as it will throw light leads a little easier but the added length of the 1086 makes it a good float rod plus it also has more power then the 1025 which would be great for turning a wild springer. I have though, landed kings on my 1025.

If I were you I would get the 1025.

Only my opinion but, I dont think you really need anything bigger than a 1084 it handles big fish just fine. I have one in IMX and in Rainshadow and hands down I believe its the best all around rod. Unless your going after fish bigger than 40# you can hanle them just fine with 12# UG and a 1084. Ive landed kings this year in excess of 30# on the 1084 with 10# UG and not had to baby them a bit.

But in bigger water conditions id go with a heavyier rod for the Kingers. But out here on the OP the 1084 is good enough for just about everything.

Just my opinion.

give TH Rods a look. I had him make some rods for me and should get them anyday. he was really helpful. I know nothing of custom made rods and they really worked with me. I am probably going to order a set of RainShadow plug rods now in a few days. and the prices are great!!!!!

As Superfly will tell you, don't forget to look at the Allstar rods. Same quality as the GL3 (if not better) yet at a GL2 or lower price.

I've got two TH rods and the workmanship on them is excellent. One is a Loomis and the other a Rainshadow. I think they're primarilly making the Rainshadow rods these days. Neither one of mine are the models your looking at but as far as the wrapping, handles and epoxy work goes, TH is a real craftsman.

So how much could I get a ALL STAR rod 9' 10-20lb and in a GL2???
I think that I am going to get the GL2 1025 8'6" and also buy a All Star rod that would be a GL2 10'(for floats) and rated 8-17lb. if they are decently priced.

Thanks for all the replys-keep em comming
P.S. how can I see some All Star rods?
