Sport's Illistrated national college football rankings - Dawg day afternoon?

Since proud Dawg's fans have always been interested in pre-season football rankings - and meaningless history too - I thought I would post this SI article that just hit the stands. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/features/2001/preview/main/ Hmmm! Oregon State ranked number 1 nationally! Oregon ranked number 7. Washington ranked number 16. Sweet . They go on to give their in-depth investigative basis for their rankings. Of course, since the Dawgs aren't ranked above the 2 Oregon schools as in the meaningless past, I would expect their woofing focuc will now be on the standings at the end of the season. Which should come at the end of the game at Reser Stadium. ... Take that bluegill boy :p ... jk'ing around; nobody have a cow litz over it. RT

Sorry RT, but that's not a ranking, that is some SI-Crack-Smoking-Scouts own personal scouting report.
ESPN has the Beavs at #12. CNN/SI has them at #15.
I think Towelie from SouthPark has just paid this SI scout a visit!
At this point, I'm going to suggest he give up his day job and go scout something else...like baseball! Either that, or he should get off his butt and acutally go visit the teams. Damn East Coast Scouts! Maybe if they'd ever just watch a game, they'd actually have a clue.

Ahhh, the ol' "meaningless past" argument! What else are you going to rely on? The future games? Okay, then, UW will go 100-0 in their next 100 "future" games. Gee, that was easy. The hard part is going 10-0 against OSU over the last 10. And throw in the 8 Bowls, 3 Rose Bowls, 2 RB wins. and a #3 Final ranking last year and you see that hard work is EXPECTED at Montlake. Sorry, RT, but I put a little more weight behind results than forecasts. You don't wanna wind up with an orange ass, now do you?

Ah the kiss of death...being ranked #1 by SI. Hope its not true really like how all the Northwest schools did last year...and Im from Florida. It sure would be nice to see any of the schools from around here win it all Wa or Or. But since SI ranked OSU #1, it looks like it wont be them. tight lines Go NOLES!

Oregon State #1? What a joke!!! OSU lost how many, 29 seniors? Enjoy it while it lasts RT, all of us here now where the real power in the NW is. Oregon was the first with indoor practice facilities and it paid off for them, but the facility issue has been bumped up to a new level now and the Oregon schools will resume there rightfull place, at the bottom half of the Pac. OSU will be lucky to go 8-3 this year while playing absolutely nobody in OCC. Tell Joey Heisman good luck for me.

Thanks Dan for proving my point, about bringing up old stale news about the Dawgs in lue of a satisfactory ranking this pre-season. And Parker, don't be too hard on SI - all the national polls had OSU and UO well above UW in the pre-season rankings. :p Some of them had to know more about football than just you Dawgs fans?!? I think so! I do agree that the Beavs shouldn't be ranked No. 1 after losing so many good seniors. But I also agree that they should be ranked above the other Pac 10 schools, as many of the national experts think. But who knows? Maybe a few key players that Erickson recruited will be suspended or in jail by the time the Dawgs come to Reser? Gonna be a dam fun game to watch - except for you poor guys that take it too seriously. - RT [ 08-10-2001: Message edited by: RT 1 ]

Picked up a copy of SI on my trip back from the east coast. Nice article on the Oregon schools. Also read in the Seattle Times that Mike Price admitted that Erickson, his old high school teamate, landed more fish when they went fishing one day last month on Lake Coeur d'Alene. I wonder if Bellotti and Neuhiesel fish.

MICHIGAN 14th! You guys are right, they were smoking crack. Looking forward to Sept 8 when those Wolverines take a bite out of some Huskie A**!! Now don't jump on me too hard, I'll be rooting for the Dawgs the rest of the year. I'd love to see a rematch in Pasadena in January for a National Championship game!!
Tight lines!!

Hey RT, before you blow your wad before the ball gets snapped, just remember THIS. In the CNN/SI preseason POLL (not some crackhead writer's article) Washington is ranked #12......Beavs are #15. So, what were you saying again............?? PS: um, don't make me dunk you in Lake Leelanau UW/UM is always a great game....what do you guys feed those linemen? Hey Dan, There can't be many folks out here that know about Lake Leelanau. Grew up about 15 miles from there in T.C., great Walleye fishin'. Should be a great game on Sept. 8, GO BLUE!!

um,
My in-laws live right up the road from there in Northport. I've been on a few trips out in the lake out of Leland, fishing for steelhead, lakers, and kings.....had a blast. That is a beautiful area up there around TC, Northport, Charlevoix and Leland. My wife likes going there because the beaches aren't "slimy with seaweed and jellyfish".
I always wondered what "umrules" meant.....my in-laws will be glad to hear that there are fans of the Maize and Blue out here too.
