Fished area 9 on Sunday targeting coho by using big apex lures and pinks were all I found. I could not believe they are hitting just about anything you put in front of them. Does anyone have any thoughts as to when the run of seagoing coho will show up? Thanks. Marc

I fished for a few hours midday Sunday and couldn't buy a pink or a coho... all we caught were kings. Sure they're a lot more fun, but when you're fishing for the barbecue, and you have to release the buggers, it's frustrating. We launched at Salsbury where you had to take a number to park. Lots of folks on the beach and in boats just off the beach. Saw two silvers caught there, and one guy on the beach reported that the bridge fishermen were catching some as well. We couldn't get bit, but then we were pulling Coyotes and not bait, so that might be part of it. After a pass or two near the park, we headed north to Foulweather area where we caught a blackmouth and a smallish king. Saw a few fish jump and several flash buy the boat. I'd be back there or at Quilcene now if it wasn't for the weather.
Yesterday afternoon, I went to MidChannel for a couple of hours and caught another blackmouth and a really nice king.
On the bite in the shallows with a quarter ounce-- how much line are you stripping out? hjow fast are you trolling?

The silvers have been in area 9 for two weeks. Got skunked at Salisbury Point last night and saw one caught. Wanted to check it out because we're having a picnic, on Sunday, for our class reunion (North Kitsap 81). Got one silver and one pink Saturday at Point no Point. Seemed like the evening bite was on because everybody was getting them. Also got a silver last Thursday and a week ago last Saturday at Point no Point.

I'm catching a few silvers too, but I think they are the resident puget sound coho. I am wondering if the big boys are in? Marc

Hit Pt. Wilson from shore this morning, but a little bit late. A guy was sliding one up on the beach as I walked in. There was a little flurry of activity for about 45 minutes there. The guy who caught the first fish limited on a Buzz Bomb (chartreuse and white); I caught one about six, had three other fish on briefly, caught and released a small resident coho, and saw one other guy get bit and lose one fish on bait. The fish were chasing candlefish right up to the breakers. Guess the bite was pretty good last night as well. I'm heading to Quilcene Bay tomorrow with my nine-year old. I'm going to try the shallow plug cut early and see what happens, so thanks to Bremalo/Pickled Herring for that info (assuming, of course, that it works).

Hit area 9 today with the wife and kids and caught 3 coho and 3 pinks. None of the coho were bigger than 7 pounds so I am still looking for the big dogs to come in. How did everybody else do? Marc

I'm seriously thinking about quitting work and living in the back of a pickup parked somewhere between Quilcene and any other launch on the salt. Fished Quil Bay on Friday morning with my nine-year-old, and we caught two fish very early on an Eric's Prawn rig-- a snelled spinner made by Luhr Jensen and designed to be used with prawns. We were running a plug-cut herring on one rod and the prawn rig with herring on the other. Then it was a long dry spell without a bite until we were ready to pull out when we landed about an eight-pound fish on a plain herring. Didn't see a lot of fish caught-- maybe 10 or so for 30 boats.
Saturday, a friend and I ran from PT toward Possession but stopped along the way because we saw hundreds of jumping salmon. Once we figured it out, they were easy to catch. Small white Coyote dodger with Coyote spoon in green/silver 20 feet down. Worked our way back and made a run on Mid Channel to catch a king and another silver. Saw a lot of fish jumping in Mutiny and Useless bays. May fish there next.
This morning, I visited Pt. Wilson and saw four fish caught... mostly on bait. Didn't touch a fish.

Central part of area 10 was smokin for silvers on Sunday - Everybody was catching!Fish were mostly hatchery but really nice 8-10 lbs. We got 4 silvers and a pink! in one hour off Yeomalt, reports for north and south of here were equally good. Water was as clear as I have ever seen on Sunday, and we saw several schools of silvers pass under the boat. Only wish I didn't have to work this week!

Hit the shipping lanes south of possession today and caught 2 pinks and 2 coho. Seven pound average. Still hoping for the bigger silvers, but not today. Nice sized blackmouth are at the bar. Hope they are still there in November. Marc
