Does any body know what the actual saltwater record for a humpy is? The WDFW website says its 6.35 pounds set back in 97. I have been catching 20 to 40 humpies each day I've fished the past 2 weeks and I have only kept a few fish that were under that record weight. Then on Sunday we hooked into a fish we were sure was going to be a king. When it finally came up it was a 12.5 lb humpy. Then not more than a minute later we got a 11 lb out of the same school. The biggest I have ever had before was 10 lbs and that was many years ago, so these fish were weighed on 3 different scales several times for several pictures. I have also caught many 9 lb fish out of this same area this season. I'm just wondering how many times I've missed the chance to have my name in the record book. I have been fishing this “new to me” area up towards the stilly with no boats around me for miles. I have been fishing out of Everett for about 16 years and I have never caught humpies this big. I am wondering if the schools of larger fish avoid the possession/ humpy hollow area because of the boats or have a different rout all together. At this hole I can C&R 40 fish and pick out my limit of fish bigger than 6 lbs before 10:00 am. Just wondering if anyone else is catching large humpies in quantity? Also I’ve been catching bright kings with clipped fins. I thought kings didn’t get fins clipped. I thought they were Tulalips but Tulalips they are dark and don’t have clipped fins?
Where are the WDFW offices your supposed to take record fish to?
The 12.5 lb humpy was the same size as a 18 lb tulalip king caught on Saturday.
I have pictures if anyone would like to see them.
