I will be in the Salem Oregon area for a while next month. I have never fished in that area. Any suggestions on where to go.

local,
There are a few rivers within an 1 1/2 hours of Salem that should be good.
If you want to fish for steelhead there are both the Santiams. Both rivers are full of summer steelhead.
If you want to target fall chinook and have a boat, The Salmon river just north of Lincoln City, The Nestucca at Pacific City, And the Siletz all are good bets for chinook.
The Clackamas isnt too far from Salem. It should be full of silvers soon. Im not too familar with that river. Maybe another board member can help you with that.
If you woud like some more detailed info on the steelhead, E-mail me and I will get you the info.

I was at a convention in Salem this Summer and got a chance to escape a couple times. The Santiam is a beautiful little river. There is a big park called Fishermans Bend. Good place to start.

Also go to ifish.net and search "Santiam" . You will get hundreds of hits.
