So far the vote is
#1 Satsop with 8 votes #2 Cowlitz with 5 votes #2 lewis.
Haven't looked at the Ifish yet. We need a few more votes here.

As an visiting OREY GUN fisherman, my view is simple. The satsop is a long way to go to catch a few fish........ IF it is the Lewis, Keith and James will need to be handicapped. We cah either:
1. Make them use even smaller trout hooks, say size 10 and 4 lb test leaders.
2. Make them fish off the bank with spinning gear
3. Put RT in their boat
In either case I think they should only have 0.25% of the time alloted to the rest of us.
I vote as follows:
Lewis Cow Sat

Perhaps we should allow the 4th choice: 4. The rainbow trout farm This is where Fishbait and RT accumulated there large knowledge base. We'd have to handicap them there though. Keith

H@ll with this! Gooose is headin for the SOP or Chehalis! A$$h@le acquaintance releaesed a silver well above the record at Johns River because he wanted to keep fishin the big kings last weekend! The lord loves fools! And I know where this type of fish is headin. The SOP! If it doesn't rain big then fish the Chehalis between the SOP and Nooche. Not traditional fishin waters for most of you but the handicaps and challenges will help seperate the southerners from the northerners :p . Cove RV Park Prostaff(1) Always FishOn! Gooose

If it is the lewis or cowlitz, anyone with a driftboat might as well stay home, we would be phucked, These are sled rivers If it is the satsop /chehalis, then there is water for everyone. Also the satsop has some very big deep holes on it in the lower river, actually there are a few in the mid river as well. anyways it is a much leveler playing field for all involved. Peace Superfly

Yeah,
Satsop. I live about 15 minutes away, but I have yet to fish it. Isn't that sick?

scrawny - sorry, but you are mistaken.
The only sled I ever owned was a Pro-Steelheader III and that was many moons ago. Sold it after I broke it three times and gave up guiding.
Have not fished the Columbia at all this year, let alone on the sled(s) you mentioned.
Been on drift boat's sled a few times this year, but only locally.

Oh oh. Two things just in: 1 - NW weather forecasters now predict a late start to the rainy season. 2 - And this local report just posted about the Satsop and Chehalis >>> "Paranoid Smolt Angler # 487 posted 09-23-2001 10:14 am Better start thinking about a plan B. Checked out the Satsop yesterday and was a trickle. Any lower and you won't be able to use the launch at the bridge. Uaually look to fish it at 2000-2500 cfm. Right now it is at a little over 300 cfm. Pray for rain...lots of rain or pick another puddle. I have been fishing the Chehalis below the Satsop mouth and it has been dismal at best. Granted this is a late system but should be into the kings and early silvers by now. I wouldn't be surprised to see an emergency closure on the whole system to protect the kings and non-clipped silvers. It's really starting off that bad! Any one having a different perspective please let me know." Posts: 7 | Homeport: Olympia, WA | Fishing Here Since: Nov 1999 | IP: Traced ----------->>> So, tough Q's for vocal Waaaaasie leader types Jim Bain and Dan Sandberg. Does that mean we all buy small catarafts to drag down the 'Sop in search of the 2 or 3 dark fish in it on the 6th, so Os and Dan won't snibble F III into oblivion? Does it mean we change the date to late Oct (or until enough rain and fish arrive in it), so guys like me that like that type river can have at it - and of course so Os and Dan won't snibble? Or does this mean those guys that prefered the Cow all along will have their way on the 6th - and Os and Dan will really snibble away shamelessly? Tough decisions. You Waaas let us OR boys know what you decide. Thanks. Maybe they will decide that it would be too much of an embarrassment getting whupped by more OR guys showing up this time, and just chicken out? Inquiring minds await the outcome. (lighten up - still just trash talkin ) RT

Calm yourself, RT. (BTW: The word is "snivel".) Are you guys ready to forecast the weather up to October 6th already? So the Satsop is a trickle now.......what's new? It always is a trickle this time of year. One good rain, and the story will change. The Satsop doesn't need to be anywhere near 2000 cfs to have fresh salmon in it. Last year as it fell from a high of 1100 cfs, we killed the silvers with a flow of 690 cfs. If it's flowing at 2500 cfs this time of year, it will be the color of coffee with cream. If it's flowing at 400 cfs on the 4th of October....I'll be worried. Otherwise, I'm still set on the Satsop. Is it making you THAT nervous, RT?

Hey Dan, you are 'snibbling' toward the messenger - the post was from a guy form Olympia! Check out the "Floatilla III" thread on today's P.P. BB. And the collective meterologist's long term forecast isn't mine either. I just was trying to tame your way over optimism about the dried up creek for less than 2 weeks away. I am just hopeful of getting enough rain, but being realistic about the chances is all. Besides, I'm not afraid of the big bad Cow, even though I would rather fish a proper level on the Sop. Geeez, with someone of your intellect - and even same 'tudes as me toward politics - I am suprised you haven't learned how to read. Go back and see that I posted an idea of even waiting until the Sop gets it's rain so "guys like me" can have it on that type of river I like. How do you get "nervous" out of that? ... Oh ya, I forgot; you were educated in Washington. The only genuine nervous 'chicken clucking' posted about F III has come by you and Os; don't know how to fish other rivers quite obviously. All above is true, and you know it! So :p ... BTW, 'snibbling' is a combo of sniveling and sobbing - thought any Dawg would know that. That's what you and Os have been doing. RT, Move it to later in the month and I'll promise to stop snibbling and start "schooling". BTW: How many fish have you taken from the Cowlitz? I figure if we fish the Satsop, Wynoochee, Chehalis, Cowlitz, Hump, Hoh, Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Quinault, Skokomish, Skykomish, Elochoman, Naselle, Grays, Kalama, Wind, Nisqually, or Queets, I'm going to have an advantage over you. I'm not afraid of other rivers, but I've fished Washington enough to know what's good and what isn't. So whaddya say, the Satsop later in the month? [ 09-23-2001: Message edited by: Dan S. ]
