In a year when alot of records are falling, seems like there are alot of trophy fish to be had. I heard there was a 25 lb silver caught and a 14.5 humpy, of course these are records but what do you concider a trophy for each catagory? humpy, silver, king and steelhead?

In my opinion a 50 lbs. king, a 20 lbs. silver and a 20 lbs. steelhead are trophy size, I personally cannot stand humpies and have no respect for the slimy, bleedin, no fighting pieces of @##t so I don't think any of them are trophies, not even 14.5 lbs. I would happily trade that fish for a chrome 6 lbs. hatchery steelhead. Still looking for a 20 lbs. steelhead for the triple crown.

I think it depends on the location. If I caught a 30lb king in Puget Sound that would be a trophy whereas in Canada or Alaska, it would be average.

I agree location has much to do with it. As does the type of quarry. I've had some gals tell me an 8 incher is a trophy. I'm not that impressed by that myself. It's all perspective and classification I guess. But I also would rather catch a 6 lb. hatchery steelhead anyday than an 8" trout of any species. It's all in your head; and in your perspective. I have no idea what I'm saying here; I'm half asleep and nodding off, and due at Monty Square in 5 hours.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Silver-20 Steelhead-20 King-40 Chum-25 Humpy-10
No fighting humpys? I'm not much into humpys, either, but I've landed some this year that would embarass some steelhead I've landed. Of course, if you're fighting fish less than 10 lbs. on conventional salmon gear, what kind of fight do you expect?

Damn RT, an 8 incher isn't a trophy to you? I'd do anything to have an 8 incher. Oops, I mean get an 8 incher. Trout that is.

Location is key, otherwise I'd laugh at a 2 pound bluegill....muh ha ha ha ha Species, location, method(?),or the personal triumph for the angler makes a trophy a trophy. 50 for king (maybe a 40ish depending on stuff) I got the 20lb silver last year. I got the 25lb chum last year. 20 pound steelie? ****, I'm just trying to catch the damn things. ***** RT, as ugly as you are, an 8" could still make you a rich man in some instances. And you folks thought Wilt made his money from basketball.

Strike Zone, Don't think just because my fish were caught in Alaska they are any less a trophy then if they were caught here(Wash), the state recognizes 50 lbs. kings as trophies statewide other then on the Kenai, same with 20 lbs. coho. I spent 11 seasons guiding in SE. and in that time put 8 over 50 in the boat, 1 personally and 7 by guests, so if your thinking there any easier to catch up there then here, go give it your best shot, as for the silver, 2 over 20 in the same 11 yrs. caught them both on the same day about 5 min. apart, the closest I came to 20 after that was a few 17-18. One last note, 3 yrs ago I went to South Dakota and shot a whitetail that scored 140 p&y points, is that any less of a trophy then had I shot it in WA. or Or. not in my book.

Sculpin.... 8 oz. Squawfish..16 oz. Sucker.....2 lbs. Whitefish..12 oz. Foulhooked soreback purple and green chum....10 pounds (at least they fight like a SOB) Dogfish..they are all trophies, just ask my wife. Carp...15 lbs I have caught all of the species of the trash fish hall of fame. The only grand slam I have completed, unless you're talking about the "slurp sisters."

Steelhead... 20 King... 50 Silver... 20 Chum... 25 Pink... see bass pg.9 Rainbow...Tripliods arent reel fish...
Ive got the 50+ king under my belt but thats it. I would much rather have a 20# steelie than any fish in the world.

I am pretty sure I got the 25 lb chum. 2 years ago on the Satsop, when it was closed to chums....It was BIG and brite, thought it was a king, huge hen, stuffed with eggs....quick pic and set her free....closest I've come to a trophy.

Location does mean alot, me and another guide I fish with at a lodge in AK were fishing the bogey a couple years back when I landed a 20lb 4oz silver that I was wanting a high five for,but he wasn't so impressed I told him that this was my first 20+ silver in wa, he said sorry. In AK I've landed many 20lb plus silvers that were all nice fish, but none as nice as that bogey buck, simply because in 17 years of fishing Wa and Or thats the only silver over 20lbs I've ever seen.
It would interesting to find out how many 20lb + fish some of you have landed or seen landed please post year I'm just curious, because for the last 5 or so years the runs have been turning out some slabs.
