I am interested in floating either the Hoh or Sol Duc rivers in the next few weeks (other thoughts?). I would be interested in fishing for coho and/or chinook.

Could someone please recommend a good float for a beginner/intermediate oarsman on a Forks area river? I will be floating in an 10.5' raft, and probably throwing spoons or spinners.

Thank you for your help!

The end of December through the first week of Jan is mostly a brat show on the bogey. there are a few wild fish around christmas but farther you get into January the fewer there are from what ive seen most of the wild fish dont come untill later. accept for a small shot around christmas. Id concentrate around the hatchery and over on the Clawah ponds that time of year.

Thanks Rich. Is the lower Hoh basically all of the water below 101?

How's the lower Hoh fishing these days?

Hey fish pirate!
If that is a quality raft with locking oar locks, a good anchor and strong oars your pretty much unlimited! Your options are endless. Provided your a intermediate rower. E-mail me if you want some info...

Beware the Sol Duc eek Go with a guide first. This is advice I was given, but didn't heed. We lived. It wasn't always a certainty.

The Hoh below Oxbow is a piece of cake. Take out at Cottonwood or Nolan Creek or even further down.

Thanks for the advice. Are there good numbers of coho and chinook in the lower Hoh right now, or is it better to wait a week?

Some fish in the lower Hoh but not packed. Its worth fishing but will be better as the month goes on. Not as many in there as there should be yet.

Fish Pirate,
I have drifted the lower Hoh (below the Oxbow) and the guys are right, it's a piece of cake; if the river stays down (not likely with the rains) you will feel like a pinball dodging rocks. A week and a half ago we drifted it in my 16" drift boat and rolled quite a few rocks, don't want to look at the finish on the bottom of the boat
frown , but the drift overall was OK. We went from the Oxbow to Nolans Creek. Caught a ton of dinks on roe. A little water and I expect (I'm a newbie here) that all H will break loose, just like on all of the other rivers. The Hoh is a pretty river...the Bald Eagle we saw made the whole trip!! Beautiful country. ( For what it's worth, the previous trip{prev week} I caught a bright steelie, est 11 lbs, click with the shutter and see ya! smile )

Steelhead already? Was it a summer-run? I'm thinking of floating the Hoh on Sunday. I'll post a report.

Once again, thanks for all the help.
