I used a dink float the other day out of a package of two I got at the store. I put the line through the top, then through the two holes on the sides, then through the bottom. Then I put a rather large split shot on about a foot up from the hook. My question is, every time I would cast and make a drift, the float would stay on its side, instead of being straight up and vertical. It is supposed to sit vertically in the water, right? How come it did this and how do I fix this problem? Maybe not enough weight for it to sit up straight? Thanks.

Actually ... I don't like that much lead on myself Parker. The reason why is sometimes you'll get such subtle takes (especially when fishing some really soft water), that you'll only get a rocking motion of the float and not a full under the water pull-down .. thus I like mine riding higher. I use just enough lead to get it upright. To each his own PS - KB ... I think my %$#@ sinks , how do you get yours to float?????????? [ 11-20-2001: Message edited by: Bob ]

Hi: Dink floats come in three sizes the smallest is about3/8"diam 6"length This float handles up to 1/2 oz of lead. When the float is properly weighted and set for depth it should drift downstream with about 2" above the water at an angle of 30deg off the vertical. If it rides any deeper it is hard to judge the angle. This angle means that your bait or lure is just sliding along the bottom in the fish zone. If the float rides vertical it needs to be slid up on the line to lengthen th distance to your lure. If the float rides at too flat an angle it means your bait is dragging too much on the bottom and is likely to hang up. Other sizes of dink float will handle 3/4oz and 1/12oz of lead. Choice of weight depends on your equipment and on the current speeds of the water you fish. Its worth reading Dave Vedder`s information on the John site .

My buddy has one of these, hand carved(imagine that) out of balsa wood. Nice looking bobber, although smaller than my personal...um hmmm....float. Does get a lot of laughs floating upright out there, although you have to wonder what exactly the green and red is on the tip of it....

Ya' know Mr. Garcia, using a smaller dick is never a good idea. I think that the answer may lie in attaching two lead balls to the bottom of his dick float to maintain that upright stance. The extra weight will allow his dick float to slide up and down along the water line. I've also heard that the motion of the float could even be of greater importance then the size of the float. But that's probally something other fisherman say to keep your feelings from being hurt? Don't handle your float to much....I heard it's bad on your eyes? Good luck getting your float upright. :p [ 11-20-2001: Message edited by: Trick ]

My preference is for wood but seems there's a few who like the softer foam when fishing? Maybe RT would like to start a comparison thread? :p Just my .02 cents worth. Gooose

A lady I used to work with prefered them smaller as she believed the smaller ones could get into certain areas the bigger ones couldnt. [ 11-20-2001: Message edited by: RPetzold ]

So, let me get this straight ... the thread, not my 'float'. - Gooose likes his woody. - Bob get's his up by using lead. - Jerry uses a smaller dick. - 4salt can't get it up. - TM's wife seems to be a pretty good float fisher. - Dr. P uses Viagra to float fish. - Trick has leads balls, and bad eyes. - Ryan pleased a lady at work with his small 'float' (imagine that). - And then Coot; holy cow dude! You bone up on this stuff in the John? I guess more than a few of us did that - but at a much younger age than you are now. And you inform us the smallest one is 6". Geez Stew is going to take that really 'hard'. It's OK Stew, Dr. Ruth says it doesn't matter. ... Gooose, I don't think I have a thread to compare to this. RT

You're right Steve it's not how long your float is it's how deep it goes under. BTW "Mr. 80%" it also a matter of circumferance

Oh gawd, a typo! I should have known I'd get this much sh!t when I made my FIRST typo. I'll just KEEP IT UP and not change the title so all you pervs can continue your d*ck smack talkin' or whatever your doin'. I will be no part of it. BTW, mine was 4 inches, not 6. The dink I used a few weeks ago, that is. I don't prefer "hard wood", as you guys call it. It just seems to me that it might get damaged awful easy. I think I'm going to like fishing these limp floats of mine in shallow, bush filled holes. It really is kind of fun! Well, thanks to those who replied seriously. I'm not sure which of you did?

KG: try some of the clear oval shaped floates. paint the top half white with spray paint. Fill half or less with water. They float upright unless you are dragging bottom or a fish has taken it.
Learn by using float in shallow water where you can see jig. Watch what happens when the jig touches bottom to the float.
you don't have to carry any lead. Just fill with water. Run line thru tube and wrap around match stick a couple of times and push into tube.
Want a slider, tie a bobber stop, add small bead then float. Use a swivel and then a short piece of lighter line that can break off if jig should hang up. This saves the bobber.

Did someone say viagra? This just out in the Journal of Medicine In pharmacology, all drugs have a generic name. Tylenol, for example is generically known as Acetaminophen. Advil is Ibuprofen. etc. The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra and announced today they have settled on the name: Mycoxaflopin. Other names considered were Mycoxadud, Mycoxafalin, Mydixadroopin and Mydixnotarizin.

wrap the line around the float twice after going throught the top of the float then go throught the bottom with however much line you want hanging out of the bottom of the float. run some hollow core led through the line and tie a swivel below the led then tie some leader on what ever jig or what ever your using. tyler

FDA also put out a warning about the effects of Viagra on attorneys. Seems to cause paralysis.

I'm gonna try Gizmo's idea, Tyler's idea, and look into Coot's suggestion. Thanks for the serious responses. I think these were the only ones. If I missed somebody's suggestion, just post back on here. I'll get this boober stuff figured out sooner or later. [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: Krome Brite ]

Gooose mentioned this thread could use a little closer look again. I kind of agree so I'm bringing it back up to the top. hehehe As for keeping your floats vertical, which they should be KB, it's usually a matter of using just enough weight to get your offering deep enough in the water you are fishing and also having it be enough to keep the bobber upright. Change your lead weight as needed. As for that other type of float your topic is technically about, have you looked into implants or extenders? I think you will find an ad about them in some 'risque' type magazines. Or, does anyone know of a good website for KB to access for some 'research'? Probably lots of us would like to know about it too?

Gooose, you should know by now that there is no mercy or pity on this board. Look at the grief KB got for typing dick instead of dink (Unless he was just baiting y'all, in which case he did an excellent job) And you continue to say the Heidi is going with you on the Ark? And you are looking for pity? The only pity I have for you is that you should have been in the drift boat Sunday instead of Friday when the 9 year old put on a clinic on catching silvers. You should have heard him bragging after the third one! Now he wants to go again, big surprise there-NOT!

HEY!, who the [Bleeeeep!] is puttin' those gotdang Viagra pop-up ads on my computer?! Another one just came up! One is with an old doctor with a white beard holding out some pills. The other is with a couple of necked youngsters gettin' it on-more graphic than I could describe on this board. Let's just say it involves the word doggie. I know it's one of you guys sending these to me. How can I find out who? Maybe Dave Jackson knows? I didn't even know this was possible-and it sure as heck shouldn't be happening since I have a pop-up stopper and good internet access! And by the way, just in case you were wondering RT, I don't need any of your attachments-I do my stretching exercises! As far as my typing that, fish4steel, it was an accident. I type fast and when using two hands to type, as you probably know the c key is next to the v key which is exact opposite of the n key on the keyboard. An easy screw up-for me anyway. I may type fast, but I make a lot of mistakes and have to back and proof-read. I always bleep myself when typing those kind of words-even though I probably don't have to since it wasn't edited.? BTW, thanks RT and everybody else for the SERIOUS advice on the DINKS and other FLOATS. Kinda what I thought about using more lead to get it down. Oh [Bleeeeep!] here it comes...

Thanks for the kind words Aunty. So in your opinion, am I more of a hoot than y'all? I've always wanted to be one up from him in somebody's mind. :p It's been a long time since I visited those questionable sites so why should I be ge...oops, I mean, how dare you say such a thing?! That's complete BS! Mental note-remember those good cover-ups... [ 11-28-2001: Message edited by: Krome Brite ]

Krome Brite In regards to pop up ads, do a search on the web you can get free software that help to stop or totally eliminate these type of ads on your computer. I have one running called powi and it seems to be working.
