Ok down to brass tacks!! My wife told her she'd buy me a Calais if I gave her my Curado and taught her how to cast it. (I'll teach her anyways ) but is the Calais worth the 300 bones????? All I can think about is buying 3 Curado's for the same price. How good are they REALLY???? confused

I can think of other things you could buy for 300 bones. Keep the curado and by a Loomis :p

Yes, you can notice the difference. But all in all it comes down to how much you fish. What's an extra $170 when you've got a lifetime warranty. Remember, the calais is the smoothest, I mean smoothest reel you'll ever set your hands on.

I've got one and I love it. Don't forget the chronarch, it's a great piece for $195 and really smooth also.

I like it much better then the Curado.
I think it is worth the price.
It will be the last reel for a while or till the next greatest and the best comes out.

I've used the Calais a few times (buddies reel) and though a sweet reel, given the choice I would go with a Chronarch or better yet, a Calcutta 251 on a Lami certified pro. Just an opinion, good fishing.

Allright Fishbait,
You twisted my arm... laugh The calais is the best reel I've ever touched and you know darn well when they come out with a better one I'll have to try it and call the calais my second favorite... smile

If they weren't $300 a piece, I'd have them on all my lighter rods. It just hurts everytime you drop the rod on the rocks and you look down and see a new scratch on it. Actually, if you looked at it now you wouldn't even know it's a calais its so coated in eggs.

Curados are worth the money , Id rather have 3 reels than one. Not saying they are better ,they are just great for the price. When they wear out rebuild them or replace them..........I have tried out the Calais and the difference isnt worth the extra 185.00. I guess it's just a preference.

The Curado Bantam SF is a very smooth reel. It's a big step up from the regular Curado.
