That's what I saw on the Cowlitz today. Several few bold individuals were keeping foul hooked cohos. One was an expert snagger -- he even released a few! Do police ever patrol the Cowlitz?

Sounds like a typical weekend day at Barrier. Yes they do patrol, but that doent seem to deter the masses. Best bet is to avoid that place on the weekend.

i think everyone is still exhausted from previous snagging thread. It is like you can't eat the same food many times in a row. Give us a few days to recover from previous thread and we will be all over it again!

Why are the Christmas trees so expensive? Are they made by Loomis? Got ours today.

Yup. Many a time. Up in Ak, while fishing for reds on the Kenai.

Ok, maybe "snag" isn't such a nice word up there. Lined is much better! wink

I was there on Saturday, boy what a zoo. I also saw alot of snagging. I was surprised that there wern't any cops around. It was also sad to see so many fish guts and carcasses that fishermen had discarded on the bank. Why don't they have a fish cleaning station there? It was strang that some of the snaggers thought they were good fishermen too.???

About snagging I am not a snagger nor do I approve of snagging but at least hopefully these fish that are snagged will not go to waste like our Native Indians were doing. I contacted the WDFW about the Skok tribe stripping the eggs and throwing the fish either on the beach or over the sides of there boat. The fish that they were wasting were not only Chums but Coho also. The response I got from them is that it's a Federal problem and that there hands were tied. If there were that many fish coming back to local waters the limits should have either been rasied or the season been extended longer at Sekiu for the sportsman. There are rules and regulations for hunting and fishing that sportsman must follow and the tribes should not be excempt from these rules. Why should we keep on paying back to the tribes that happened such along time ago. Plain and simple $$$$$ money. This is getting OLD

The sad part to this whole thing is that to get that 6 fish limit there doesn't need or have to be any snagging involved. The Cowlitz fish this year have been more than willing to chomp on a variety of stuff all fall. Eggs, plugs, spinners, it doesn't seem to matter. All the fish my friends, Dad and Myself have taken have been fair hooked!!! Only reason I haven't taken home 6 fish is cause' I don't need, nor do I want to deal with that many fish!!! I'm not a "fill your freezer" kind o' guy. There have been some fish cops down there but it has been few and far between.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh

i've been down to the barrier dam the last few days in my boat and i can't believe all the fish guts and garbage on the boat ramp.it seems people are cleaning fish right on the ramp as well as the 200yds.of river bank from the dam to the launch.people are standing in fish guts catching fish.i have to agree this is the worst mess i have ever seen in my life.walking through guts, eggs, gills, ect.just to get to your boat.not to mention having to beg people to get off the ramp to launch your boat.i know the fish need cleaned but there is a creek right behind the parking lot where people could clean fish and it would make it a whole lot nicer down there. confused scott
