Want to know where you have the best chance to "hook-up"?

Is your favorite river one of Washington States top 10?

Check out Wayne Kruse's Outdoors in the sports section of the Sunday Herald.

Some of my favorite rivers aren't nessesarily the best for hooking up. I love to go to some places because of the solitude and the beauty. Sometimes I will just go on a road trip to just see something new and use something different.

Well, that is just great I can expect a ton of people on the river I mainly fish. If it ever comes back in to shape. frown 3 of the rivers I fish are on that. 2 on the top ten.

I don't know where they got their info from, but some of the plantings they showed on there were different from what WDFW has on their site. confused Also, what's the deal with the Kalama-it said on there no winter smolts are being planted anymore. confused What the [Bleeeeep!] is up with all this bullsh*t (I hope?) confused

Krome,
Don't know where they got the info, I'm just passin' it along for those interested.

If anyone is aware of factual differences, with references, post it here or even e-mail me cause I'd be happy to call'em on it.

Hey Plug Puller,

I don't think I'd be freakin' out just yet. I doubt if that many Nooch and Cowlitz fishers read the Everett herald. wink

There are no Winter smolts planted in the Kalama itself, but Gobar Creek(a trib.) gets around 90,000 winter fish.

Ahh, ok, thanks for the info, jtl85. That makes more sense. It's kind of misleading when they say:

"...smolt plant zero (the state is turning this one into a summer-run-only program)."

Mr. Kruse is just making it easy on those who don't want to do the leg work themselves.....or should I say surf the web on their own. I don't know about the accuracy of his numbers, but all the references he makes are based on the smolt plant info and steelhead harvest reports accessed through the WDFW websites. Maybe that's the point....don't make it too easy on the one's who don't want to put in the time and effort.

No wonder I'm having one of the best steelheading seasons ever! I've played/landed more fish so far this year than the past 5 years combined. I've probably averaged 2/3rds of a steelhead landed per day while averaging about 12 days of fishing per winter season during the past 5 years.
This year I've landed around 40 fish in 7 days of winter steelhead fishing. Not trying to be boastful here....just trying to put this season in perspective and thankful that efforts to turn around runs/habitat mixed with a little luck in terms of ocean conditions have made this an exceptional Steelhead season already. Russian military ships blowing away pirate high seas driftnetters hasn't hurt our cause either! Get out and hit it it while it's hot!

I wonder if Mr. Kruse could furnish his readers
with a list of the top 10 small rivers. Better yet he could list them all right here for easy access to thousands. When and if he ever does post
such valued information we should thank him for his research and insite as any critical remarks would surely be viewed by some as an attempt to
bash!

FJ...out.

Hey FJ,
That's his job man, and the Everett Herald and Seattle Times fishing reports on Thursdays & Sundays are not exactly a big secret you know, neither is any of the info they print. Chill out buddy, you seem to be a bit up-tight.

I'm sure Mr. Kruse could do a top 10 small river list, now that you've given him the idea?

Please don't consider this an attempt to........bash! laugh

Are there any rivers that we can talk about? How about the Columbia? Is that a zipperlip too?

I'd really like to know from the guys who don't want to give any advice on the "secret spots", when someone is asking about a place to fish, what places are OK to talk about. Are there any?

I'm not calling anyone out or adding to the bashing, I just would like to know if there are any places we can talk about without gettin' ugly about it.

Been there, done that. Wouldn't recommend it for anadromous fishing. Next... rolleyes

Rockfish, play your cards right and I can show you how to slam the blackmouth at Southworth. I've had 20 fish days over there, all keepers. laugh

Still wouldn't pass up a day slammin' BIG fish for the cutt's. I used to live on Fox Island and have wrestled with many nice cutt's from the shore.

I prefer to go after fish that can spool 'ya and I'm not not talking about an ultralight setup. :p
