The pink worms, orange worms, white worms, etc. all work great on hatchery fish especially in the heavily fished terminal areas. Most guys will be chucking corky shrimp, corky eggs, etc. and along comes the worminator and.......WHAMO! Been there, done that, many times. Definately the "go to" lure of choice after chucking bait to no avail. Sometimes the wild and crazy action of the worm will get those lazy ass, cold-water brats to wake up. Worms have really caught on (no pun intended) down here and you don't get as many weird looks from fellow fishermen anymore, at least I don't as much as I used to back in the day. Drift or float fish and don't forget that shrimp and anise! Another nice thing about fishing the worms is that they hold up way better than bait and you can beat on the heavy water with 'em. Gooose, I think I sent you a worm in that sample pack a while ago. Should'nt be hard to bust yer cherry with that thing Happy hunting, guys and gals!

He was hoping know one was watching and on the first cast into the same pool we have thrown eggs and shrimp into. A nice native buck took my PINK worm and ran. Hey gooose and RT, as of 8:00 a.m. this morning I am no longer a pink worm virgin!!! Landed a clipped 8 pound chromer driftfishing the worm with two beads and a birdie drifter above it. The take was very subtle, really surprised me because I'd heard they slammed it. Turned out this time to be a definite tap-tap-tap, different from the bottom, then a pickup that stopped the lead in the water for a second. I jerked and came up solid. I am pretty dang pumped about this and let me tell you, anybody out there that wants to make fun of the pink worm (like I foolishly used to), should shut up and try it. It was dang fun that's for sure!!! Also, tryed jigs today, after I broke off the only pink worm I'd brought with me-the rest were at home in the package. No bites on the jigs. Only used some sparkly yarn ones though, didn't try the marabou or schlappen as I had forgot those at home too. Really prepared, huh?! After that, I tried a red spin'n'glow/eggs scented with some Mike's Shrimp Scent. Lost another fish on this setup. All in all, a pretty good day. I bet if I wouldn't have broke off my worm, I would have got my limit.

Congrats KB! Bet you won't forget a pack of them next time out. As for the jigs, remember that while they can catch fish in higher colored water, they work best when the river drops and gets clear, and the fish are more 'holed up'. Keep after those too and you will gain just as much confidence in them as the PW, in the right conditions and places. And hey Gooose, speaking of confidence, it's been the same old syndrome for a milenium - if you don't have confidence in your pink worm it makes it harder, I mean more difficult, to get it to work. Especially after a few beers and you can't feel the bite as well! But keep after it and you will break your PWV. The PW also works a bit better when the water vis is good. Just keep the faith, keep your confidence up, and your worm will come into it's own. Oooooweee. Merry Christmas all. Dr. Ruth [ 12-25-2001: Message edited by: RT ]

try chocolate chip cookie dough in a bait sac. works 10 times better than any worm, and if you get hungry you can have a snack.i once caught a 32 pound steelhead on the smokehouse river with this super secret bait. it works great.

Well, thanks all for the congrats! Today fished mid-late afternoon and broke one pink worm off on the bottom. That's the only action I had, but I'm gonna stick with it. Ain't gonna quit yet! One reason being because my dad tried a pink worm today and hooked one nice fish. Towards the end of the drift, a fish hit him HARD and took off. He set the hook and the he said the fish performed a couple headshakes, and headed downstream toward some fast water in a riffle. Needless to say, he began chasing it downstream, but the fish eventually spit the hook down in the riffle. Well, 1 (the one I landed yesterday) for 2 anyway I guess. Hey bardo, are you serious? Cookie dough? I know bread dough used to be killer on trout, so maybe...? I'm willing to try anything new, now that I'm a believer in something new for me-the worm. From the few guys that seen me with that worm on yesterday (only about 3) I got some pretty strange looks, but it was all worth it when I landed that fish!
