What do you all think about using Fluorocarbon as a main line. Thanks for your input.

I wouldn't mess with it for main line. The two fluorocarbon lines I have tried are Seagar and Vanish. The slight advantage of faster sinking , abrasion risistance and not losing stregth when water soaked aren't worth the stiffness of Seagar or the low knot strength of Vanish. I found the knot strength could be improved to the #test by lubricating the line with smelly jelly but find thats too much of a bother. The only time I mess with fluorocarbon is a last resort leader in clear water. Yo-zuri is a line I really like. It is a polymer line with a fluorocarbon layer on the outside.

I tried the vanish last summer and it failed miserably!!!I have heard some good things about the fly leaders though.

I wouldn't tie up my worst enemy's dog with Vanish. I think it is more than just knot strength, the stuff just breaks.

Tight lines

Vanish line F*#$ing sucks. What a wast of money.
In Salmon Trout Steelhead magazine the auther talks about a Cabellas brand that is really good and he actually uses it.

Not to mention the simple fact that if you decide to put this type of line on your reel. You won't be able to track your line through the drift because you yourself won't be able to see it! And therefore, you will have no idea where your fishing. Unless you want to guess where your line and lure is all the time you will have to tie on a bobber so you have somenthing to see. By the way, I have said this before. I have lost every fish I had on when I used Vanish. And this had nothing to do with tryig to "horse" a fish in. But it had everything to do with a line that doesn't work under the stress and pressure of a large fish.

Thanks for the feed back, my freind is home right now peeling the brand new vanish of his reels he just put on. He's not taking any chances of loosing a steelie over the cost of replacing new line with new(better) line. smile

I think if you are going to use Florocarbon line, use the highest test strength you can get away with for the type of fishing you are doing. If you are drift fishing and normally use 8 lb test, step up to 10 or 12 with Florocarbon....after all invisable is invisable...The invisable man is still invisable whether he is fat or skinny, just don't step up to a higher #lb test thickness that would impeed the action to the type of fishing you want to do.

When you hook a fish over 5lbs they break off, and they "VANISH"
