I got a really nice rod holder as a gift for The Ungrateful One for Christmas. It's sold in West Marine and is made of solid wood. It holds 17 rods with the reels on them and it has wheels on it. I thought this was a really cool gift idea.

Gawd knows, there is enough tackle for everything from halibut to crappie downstairs, and there are more than enough rods to fill the rack.


All I've heard ever since Christmas is incessant P***ing and moaning about the lame gift.


OK.....so what do Real Men *REALLY* want for Christmas???


(He got me guide pants and a Corsair reel ( which got returned due to being a poor reel ). He feels he got the short end of the rod and in retaliation gave me nothing for my 1/6 birthday, although he says a "shoe rack" is coming mail order.)


What would YOU, as a fisherman, want?

You just can't please some folks! The nerve of that guy! I would have fallen over if my wife got me gift like that WITHOUT prompting from me.

I usually place the Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, other catalog or magazine strategically, so that my wife knows what I would REALLY LIKE. Of course, since this is a family oriented website, I can't mention the names of the magazines.

I usually get something from the catalogs, though. (and if I've been a really good boy, something from the magazine!)

The only other solution that I can think of is to assume an alter ego and post up sayiong you are looking for a gift for your "best fishing buddy".

Wait.......your real name isn't Dawn, is it? Honey, if that's you, check the magazine on your bedside table, page 86, that's what I really want for my birthday and it's only a month away.

Shouldn't be that tough when you both fish. Do you fish together? My wife wouldn't risk buying me fishing gear. Just gives me gift certificates at Ted's or a spending allowance on the credit card.

I would suggest gift certificates...I know they can be lame, but buying the perfect gift is hard.

Here is what I do. When the old lady wants to buy me outdoor gear she gives me the money, then I upgrade the item and pay the difference. If I told her I needed jig floats, she would get me red/white bobbers....so I need to do the purchasing.

Sorry, Dogfish. I'm not your wife. You can send her to me, if you want, and I'll tell her how to shop for a fishin' husband.

After The Ungrateful One read this post, I've been branded a troublemaker! And the cat's outta the bag.....his intention was to get me the guide pants and me not like them. Then he would get them by default.....one of you guys was right on that one, weren't you????

But I bet after reading all these "Great gift" comments, he won't complain about it again. If he does, I'll send him to read the archives.

I am at a loss to think of one more item that is related to fishing that we need. I hate to just waste money to fill a gift bill so tried to find something practical. Now we truely have everything and next Christmas will be doubly tough.

And yes.....1/6. And apparently my gift is *still* in the mail. Hmmmmm....methinks something is rotten in Denmark.
