What is your opinion on the proper amount of weight? I read in this month's addition of STS that a very well respected Stealheader believes you should run just enought weight to tick the bottom every 10-15 ft or so to allow a natural flow / presentation of the offering. However, I have read other articles (and posts) that suggest sticking your drift gear on the bottom with heavy weight to slow it down in the strike zone. I have also seen suggestions that going real heavy with lures such as worms and aeroflies is productive because the constant start and stop of the gear provides better action. What is your opinion? Thought this common issue among drifters might be worth discussing.

I try to use enough weight to tick bottom every 10 to 15 feet in clear water and every 5 to 10 feet in darker or very fast water. Don't know if its just me but it seems to work.

I find it easier to feel a bite the less I hit bottom. plus I feel to slow with lots of bottom contact will force my offering to the bottom out of the stike zone due to water pressure just my.02

I try and touch the bottom every 2-5 feet.I like feeling the bottom more often to get a better feel
so I learn where rock's/boulder's root wod's and such are.I mostly use a 5 to 7 shot of .300 mag
slinky, this work's for me in most all system's.The only time I need to use more is in those fast deep broken top water's where "IKE"
maybe hangin out in.Then I'll bump up to a 10-15
shot mag.Keep in mind that I'm tossing rag's most the time. You need some weight to keep the high floating real bouyant lures down in the "STRIKE ZONE".Good luck,

What about float like a butterfly sting like a bee. This sounds like the way to fish to me. Now the rope a dope that is a nother story, I can't apply that to fishing.
