New boat coming quick. Rigging meeting next week and I have to decide if a windlass is a good investment. I don't want to add it later.

I've used the buoy anchor puller in the Columbia for more than 10 years. Is the windlass a reasonable substitue?

Pitchy, they both have their place. Don't limit your options. Flexibility is your greatest assist out there next to common sense. You need a backup anchor anyway. Get the windlass and continue to use your puller and float as needed or as backup. You don't want to have your rode tangled in your prop and not be able to anchor while you try to cut the prop free and/or have to wait for assistance. redundancy is critical and saves lives.

May you have many good voyages with your new boat.

Reel Reefer, thanks for your comment. Not sure that I'll be carrying around 2 anchors systems though. Maybe a spare anchor for blue water, but for the Columbia, I'm wanting my double rocker hook that has served so well. I don't like the idea of pulling anchor line near a prop. I have no problem with the sled and pump though. The anchor winch eliminates all that. I'm leaning toward spending the money and letting them do it at the factory. It's a sweet setup.
