Just thought I'd share this with you. Someone sent this Friday responding to my posts about trying to apply more pressure to poachers/snaggers...

His Email:

" Worry about yourself and not others. I would not
advise thoughts of going out and playing game warden.
Obviously you are new to the sport of fishing/hunting.
Get over it, deal with it, because you can't change
the world. My advice; if it bothers you so
much...........quit fishing. My father doesn't fish
because of similar frustrations as yours. Quit
fishing in areas where you are going to experience
meat hunters. Just remember, what's ethical to you
may not be ethical to me or others. Your not a big dog! "

My Reply:

"Actually I've been fishing/hunting my whole life. And I don't frequent such places, but I hear the horror stories and see enough of it to know how pathetic it is. You can bend over and take it or maybe you even participate - that's your call.

I'm not talking about ethics anyway. I'm talking about the law...
Meat hunters/fishers are fine. I eat fish some times - that I catch legally.

Worry about yourself and not others??? What kind of self centered crap is that? Try practicing this yourself - don't worry about what I'm doing - if it bothers you - just ignore it.

Stand up for what you believe in, or follow the 'Hitlers' of the world. For me, the choice will always be the same...

Quitting is not an option."

Am I just smoking something here? Do most of you feel the way he does??

Hell no I don't feel the way he does. people need to learn to respect the wild fish. How many fish do people need to have in their freezers anyway? Go buy a case of bumble bee tuna

No.

It never ceases to amaze me how hypocritical the human race can be! He tells you to stay out of his and/or other's illegal poaching business - yet turns around and personally get's right into your legal and ethical business. At your address yet! mad Keep copies of the e-mail, and try to ascertain it's origin.

I wonder if the outlaw bonehead even realizes it is all of our business - we pay for those fish! We all have law guidelines to share what belongs to citizens who pay license fees. More and more poachers are stealing our opportunity to fish and hunt; because then there's less fish and game available and because it gets places closed down! If the law enforcement agencies don't take care of it as they should, then someday in the not-too-distant future some others are going to take care of it. ... The authorities and poachers both need to be made aware of this! Soon.

From the lighthearted thread called 'PP posts from the year 2030' came a less than lighthearted precursor of things to come:

"What happened to all those snaggers of the early 2000's? eek eek

I know how you feel!
I myself have posted opinion or humor in different situations and have been slammed horribly lately (but i don't mix opinion w/humor cuz I don't think some could decipher it) so now I have limited myself to logging out and lurking for fun or intresting post if something really hits home (like your post) then I log on and rant like I am now . Hopefully we all will get out of this rut and start posting fun good topics don't get me wrong there r a few out there still .

PP, the e-mail you received does seem quite narrow-minded and self-centered. "Don't bother others" , "you can't change the world"? If that's the attitude we all took toward those who break the law, just look the other way, what kind of fishing could you expect to have, not to mention life in general. As far as being a "big dog", I am a big dog when it comes to those who break the law. How long do you think it would be, if no one followed the law, before you and I wouldn't be able to fish anymore? No you are not smoking something, you are right on the point. I read about a lot of people on this BB and others who are trying to make sportfishing better, breaking the law is not how it is done. Anyway, no I don't feel the way this gentleman does. Sorry for ramblin, thanks for effort.

PhishPhreak,
You may not be a big dog, but whoever wrote this to you is obviously a very SMALL scared puppy who probably still wets himself when stood up to.
Nice come back letter to him

You may have gotten that as a personal email,
but I have read that same writing either on this
board or another two. I have gone back and cannot
find it. Perhaps someone else can remember who
the poster was or when it was posted earlier.

Hey PP ... nope, you're not smoking anything, you're right on ... just might to have someone try to make fun of you and call you a "nark" ... big deal laugh

Enforcement problems abound across the state ... and it is everybody's business. It affects you and me as well as the fish and game that the laws try to protect.

Those that disagree can do / say whatever they want ... we can still sleep at night with a clear conscience!

I'm with you PP. I'll go out of my way to turn in a poacher whenever I can. Don't give a darn what anybody thinks about that. Cell phones are a great tool to help nail the scum.

Thanks all. I knew many of you would feel the way I did when I read that email. But it just makes me wonder how many 'lurkers' or regular board members out there agree with this guy.

I won't give out his address or full name (if it really is - hard to tell). But just to clarify for those of you who think you may know him: S. Larson. Ring any bells?

You ever seen the movie "Sword Fish" hackers arn't very good with one hand... Repeated offenders should have their hands chopped off in my opinion...

And if people like us who think it is wrong don't stand up for it.. who will?

unfrotunately knuckle dragging idiots like this believe they are above the law, just because they have gotten away with it, or it is how they were brought up. All I have to say is the rules apply to all. It is not right to take fish and game in unethical or ileagal ways. The laws and rules are to be abided by. If we do our part and turn people in and they get caught maybe we will shame them into quiting. So I say turn people in, I don't think that confrontation is a good idea. Take down as much info as you can and contac the game dept. or the state patrol. I think the eyes in the woods program looks like a good idea. It is the small minority that will ruin thing for the majority!! So don't let them win

PhF,

I don't feel that way, and I turn in poachers. You can do it by calling 911 and asking for game enforcement.

I just can't understand the greed the underlies some of the fish hogs. I knew a guy some years back that was an incredibly good steelhead fisherman. Told me he had a freezer full of steelhead. I asked him how he liked to cook them. He replied that he didn't really like to eat them at all - if he couldn't give them away, he'd just throw them away. He said he didn't even clean them before he put them in the freezer - he just wrapped them with newspaper, and put them in his freezer to dry.

And after we talked about this, he went on to ***** about how the fishing wasn't any good anymore because the indians were netting all of the fish.

PP, don't be upset with an email from a bona fide
bottom feeding loser. These folks have to say crap like they do to get some attention. Pity them
for what they lack between the ears and turn their butts in at every chance.

In other posts about snaggers people tlk about a river (I forget the name) where there is a certain section that you can gaurantee the snaggers to be at certain times of the year when the fishing is hot....

Have those people who know of this section thought of calling a Warden (is that the name?) before hand so the warden can get there ahead of time and watch it happen?

do you guys understand what I am saying?

Thanks,
Ben
