Im looking to get a couple new plug rods. I saw a Fenwick Fenglass rod, Its 8'6" in length rated for 8-20lb line. Are these the rods that everyone raves about for plug pulling?

I currently use a couple custom built Lamiglas 90MT for plug duty. These rods are 7'6" rated for 8-17 lb test. The tips are too stiff for #30 Hot Shots. They work fine with bigger plugs like Warts and Tadpollies. I need a rod that will let me see what a small plug is doing yet are capable of running bigger plugs such as Mag Warts and Flat Fish.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

IMO this is a bomb rod for medium sized plugs and also excels with diver/bait combos. But it won't fish anything higher than a k-13 properly.

Willie,

The Fenwick that we were all talking about as a great plug rod was the FS83C. Soft tip and plenty of back bone to set the hook.

I like the TH 9000 (7'6" 6-12#) or the TH 965 (8' 10-20#)from Rainshadow. Softtips, even the TH 965 has a soft enough tip for the smaller plugs. Can't beat the quality for the money.

Mag warts and #30 hot shots? I use the old fs79c for most of my buggin' but if I step up larger than 25 hot shot I use a rod I built from a seeker blank fsh832b I got from Anglers work shop. Have taken fish up to about 27-28lbs. before the rod noodeled out on me.

I have always wanted to try a Fenwick FS 83 C for pulling plugs and bait divers for Steelhead and Silvers. I was in Hill Creek Outdoors in Castle Rock the other day and noticed one for sale. I heard Fenwick discontinued that model so I called Fenwick's toll free number. They confirmed the FS 83 C has been discontinued. At less than 70 % of manufactures suggested retail I talked myself into buying it. Hopefully the softness of the tip will increase the hook up ratio and shows how my plug is working better than my current rod, outweighing any mushy fish fighting tendencies. If you want one and you see one for sale, buy it. When the current stock is gone that will be the last of them.
