Everybody except the people making money off fishing is looking for information, and nobody is willing to give any. Is that really what a fishing message board is all about? Afraid somebody is going to catch fish if you help them. You've gotten information from somebody so now its yours? Help others that love to fish.

I have found that many people are willing to give imformation off the board, but who wants to post there favorite fishing spots, lures (which can be hard to come by at local tackel shops), zipper lip rivers, etc.. i suggest you make a few friends and ask them for imformation perhaps trade some info or just pester them until they give in . Ive meet TTT and he was willing to help me out a little.. and i also have gotten alot from timber, wiser, and FJ in the chat room. (everyone else too) I believe the purpose of this board is to make friends... and share some general information.. you need to make friends and thats how you get the info.. Casey

This has been posted once before awhile ago. I'll say this again. I find no problem helping with how to rigup your rod or where to lok at a river to find fish, but if you want exact timings, what exact lures to use, and where to fish you won't find it from me. I don't mean to sound snobish, but Ii'm well schooled for my 32 years. Started salmon/stelhead fishing at 7 with my Dad. He taught me how to rig my rod and how to read the water. I picked up th rest from watching him or watchiing others FISHING! I learned alot from oldtimers back in the mid/late 70's. I wasn't given info as readily as you can find it here. I had to earn their respect, then I was shared a wealth of information. I put my time and dus in to get this info. You cherish what you work hard for, and i's not something you let oout lightly. Normaly you give this info to somne you get to know well, and consider a friend. I was scorned upon by some of the oldtimers, but when tey saw this young preteen standing in the river (or plunking) in ice cold conditions and not complaining, rigin my own rod and playing my own fish well did I recieve the grand prize. I cherished the first smile I got of th old local Robie oon th lower Puyalup as he shared stories of fishing around the NW, where he fished and lures that caught fish. The more smiles an waves I got, the ore acceptance I got.
Don't mean for this to sound like a boys club, or a fraternity, but I'm more then wiling to help, but I'm not runing of and announcing my zipperlips or favorite holes. I've done tha ONCE in my life to soeone who wasn't quite a "good" friend and watched my favorite hole go to hell fast. A good friend won't hose you on a "favorite" spot to fish. Mind you somoeone else know about it too, rarely is there a secret spot anymore, but there are some that aren't "heavily" fished.
So, you wanna know what type of rod to use, or what "generic" lure to use for a certain season, then ask. But thoe of us who realy earned our info the hard way rarely will spill it on BB as this. It's too easy to get info now adays and not try and experiment. The best lesons llearned are through experience, so go experience some fishing and try and see what you can do. Find yourself a fishing buddy who knows what thy are doing and see if he'l let you into his world and share some of his expertise.

Sour Grapes are hard to swallow. There is plenty of information given here, both in the past and every day. Listen to some advice here. Search archives, make friends, e-mail a few questions or comments, participate and take what is given, read between the lines and interpret pictures. Just a few ways to start. Probably plenty of other advice from willing teachers out there. Don't expect something i exchange for nothing.

In the spirit... Fished blackmouth this morning out of Pt Defiance. Had one nice takedown in front of Quartermaster Harbor. 120' of water, downrigger near the bottom. Blackbox at 0.6v. Blue Grand Slam Bucktail 40" behind a Chrome flasher. Line actually broke(new line is in the garage) so not only did I lose the fish, I lost all the gear....I needed to burn some 6 month old gas(old like my line) so went up to Southworth and fished in front of the Ferry terminal. Four fish in one hour, one keeper, 7.5lbs. Same info as above except Green speckled glow hoochy(lost my GSB yaknow) with Green-Glow Hot Spot Flasher. I love fishing through the ferry wash. All in all a great morning. If this info is zipper to anyone, they have a problem.

i find its better to get out and learn for yourself as anything learned in this manner is not easily forgotten. 30 some years ago there were no computers and all the steelheaders of that era were not to keen to share any info so consider yourself lucky to live in this day and age where a few clicks of the mouse will give ya more info than i ever thought imaginable back when i was a rube. like someone else said find a fishing buddy with more experiance and get out there and search and destroy.....and good luck in your quest...peace
tight lines......wayne

Want fishing information, go fishing with me. I'll noy only show you my methods, but will show you where I fish. While I will respond to some questions here, to try to give out a lot of info would be like writing a book. One can get a lot of advice and general information from a board like this, but if you really want specific information, hook up with some of these guys and go fishing. I see posts here all the time from people wanting fishing partners, or with open seats in their boats.

I read and posted to Gooose's 'fishing info & how to deal with it' thread already. The thing I'll repeat here is the old wise saying "tell them how to fish but not where".
Most of the shared info on the fishing websites has already been available for some time in many venues - especially good books like such as Bill Herzog's 'Steelhead Driftfishing' and his 'Spoon Fishing for Steelhead and Salmon', and Dave Vedder's book on float fishing and jig fishing. So many many other good fishing books and mags than that too - all of which have more detail than is given here. So, it seems to me that some of you improperly disdain the fact that in the inevitableness of the modern "info age" on the internet guys can more quickly ascertain some info that you had to get from books and magazines and seminars and such; that you got to augment your on water learning experiences. Maybe it was the same type of disdain by some of our forebearers that had to walk to school or work, and work things out with a paper and pencil, while us lucky young whippersnappers here in 'back to the future' get to ride to school or work, and have calculators and computers do things the easy way for us? Probably. The solution? Get over it; they still have to spend the time on the water to get to where you are! Let's try to stop the zipperlip places from being posted for sure, but get over your selfishness and perhaps even jealousy of the modern era of the info age. ... Just my opinion. And also my biz now (mag column and book).

Choose the river that you want to fish, then hire a guide. You will learn faster than reading any board.
Choose another river, time of year, species and repeat. Then share what you learned with people who are willing to share with you.
