Do the bankies catch very many fish? Going down next weekend and theres only room for two in the boat so I will be casting from shore. Wondering if I have a real chance or not? confused

I saw one guy in about 20 land a 20 lb fish on friday. Did not see any of the others get one, but I was not watching them all the time.

If you can get poll position at the outlet of Drano, you will have a chance at getting a spriner or two.

Ever notice how the boats trolling near the outlet comes within casting range of the bankies?? There is a reason for it... wink

I've spent many hours in "Pole-Position" at West Bank Drano and can tell you it dosen't mean didilly squat. I've observed 12 year old kids and 60 year old women several spots up the bank have equal success hooking fish. When the fish are moving in you just have to be casting and retrieving and not goofing with backlashes or catching the trees and or rocks. Remember, its better to be lucky than good.

Guess my main question is they catch fish and they sound like they do. Is there always a ton of people on the bank? confused

Some times you need to go and just figure it out for yourself. I don't want to come across as an a$$hole but, hell that's what I did way back before the days of this website. You sound like a young angler so hit the road and be ready for some adventure.

If you don't like crowds and only want to go if your pretty much guaranteed a springer from the bank, Drano or the Wind is not the place to go.

I've fished Drano from the bank many of times, and it can be fun if you just like to fish and realize hooking a fish is just a bonus. I've fished weekdays and weekends and it's usually always crowded. Yes, next to the bridge is the best bank spot, but expect to get there at 3:30 a.m. if you even want a shot at getting a spot near the bridge.

There use to be areas on the opposite (east) side of the bridge to fish (watched a guy there one year beach the biggest springer I've ever seen around 34 pounds), but that area was filled-in when they widened the road. frown Now it's just a steep bank that a few guys attempt to fish off of.

The hottest I've ever seen the bank fishery get would be about 1 fish for every 3-4 anglers. Most of the time during prime time the bank will cough up roughly 4-6 springers a day.

So what the hell hit the road and just enjoy it for what it's worth. Hell though with plunking open below Bonny, why would you ever bank fish Drano? wink

Had the "Pole Position" last monday. The only advantage was I didn't have to wear waders. No fish caught from the bank from O'dark thirty to 0900. My only advise, Get there early and get a good spot.
