Went outside to bring in the trash can and noticed a trail of dried gas leading from the street to the back of my 21 ft Northwest Jet. A big blank space where the 9.9 Merc kicker motor used to be.. It was gone. Looked up the street to where my neibours 21 foot Custom Weld sits and his Honda Kicker was missing. Went over and knocked on his door.. he is as pissed as I am. I can't believe I did not hear them. The motor weighs a lot so I know they must of had at least 3 guys to pull it off. I have read about this happening quite a lot on this board so I put a lock on it. So what, they just took bolt cutters and cut everything. Auto pilot, gas line, everything...... Funny thing is that it also had a ton of stuff inside and they did not unzip it and get in. Bottom line, C.B, C.D player... Who knows how much the tackel alone is worth thats inside. They did grab one bag that was in the compartment on the front of the fish deck... my plugs, basically all my steelhead gear...

My wife says its my fault... I recon she is right but not sure what else you can do.

its not your fault, who has the right to take another stuff anyways? i say a thief who gets caught sho pay with the vengeance of the owner, i got ripped off last august, 4000$$$ of car audio, and cd's and what not, these low life *****es who do this sort of thing get what they deserve, i would go as far as taking and knocking a car thief out and take him way out in the middle of the woods late at night and break his fingers and forearms with a tire iron.. **berkley boy**

That sucks, B-RUN. I guess the bottom line is where are these motors going? Are they being parted out and sold as parts, or are they being sold as "used" to marine dealers.

Crack down on the bogus dealers buying these stolen motors and parts and the problem will go away.

If you know the motors serial number, I'd start calling around asking for a used "X" motor. If you find it, call the police on the dealer.

I've had to do that to some local scuba shops that specialize in "used" gear. Bastages are basically buying known stolen gear and selling it. Our local PD hates these people and are always more then happy to come in get your stuff back.

I have been there too. I had a sweet '77 Toyota LandCruiser stolen several years ago. It was my baby...fully customized 4X4 machine with a Chevy V-8 putting out over 350HP. You really feel violated when anything is stolen.

The worst part is that in Washington these @$$holes will have to steal at least 5 cars (I know that you had a motor stolen) before they do a day of jail time! No sh!t!!!

Just recently one of our state legislators had a car stolen, found out how weak our laws were for autotheft, and there is some action proposed to stiffen the penalties. Hopefully in Idaho you guys can shoot on sight! Rid this planet of a few of these low-life scum.

I'm sorry to hear that, it's a terrible feeling to come out in the morning and find your stuff gone! I came out one morning years ago to go fishing and my truck was gone! Home owners insurance should cover it....I hope.

My neighbors year old drift boat was stolen right out of his driveway, trailer and all, he got a call about a month later when they found it half submerged in the skagit, cost him well over two grand to get it repaired, i am with the arabs on this one cut their f'ing arms off!!!!

I was selling my old truck next to Hwy 101 near Sequim. I was taking a night english class at the college and checked my truck out as I left. Once I got back home at about 9:30 I looked and someone stole the aluminum box and a set of tires out of the back. I was all pissed off. I never called the cops because I figured they aren't going to be able to do anything. Well about a month later some guy up the road was getting busted for meth. I went up to talk to the cops to see if my stuff was there. I got my set of tires back, but the aluminum box was gone. That guy up the road had all kinds of tools and stuff that he stole from contractors. You should report that you had your motor stolen because you never know if it will turn up somewhere.

Berkelyboy it sounds like you've planned this out before . Another weapon of choice would have to be a Maglite flashlight that is at least 4 cell.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the motor. It's a crying shame.

Several years ago I purchased a Jet boat and parked it in my driveway that night. 5 feet from my bedroom window. Got up the next morning and went fishing with somebody else, in their boat, and got home that evening and the motor was gone and never to be heard of since.

I called my homeowners insurance company and found out that I needed a policy added onto my insurance to cover watercraft and such. Didn't have and I was out of any recovery pay from them.

So bottom line, it was gone in only one day. Maybe a state record for me....24 hours old. I wonder if it ran very good, never got it to the river.

My rifle is by the back door. And can be loaded in about 2 seconds.

hey fp same here man but I got to fish mine once though had one of them locks where you have to use a weird key like for locking lugnuts and it was on there pretty good I didn't think anybody could get it off but I don't think like a crook they pryed it off the transom straight up you could tell they worked at it too

Been there done that. Knew who the perps were one time and cops did nothing.. deputy had a thing going with his older sis.. oh well.

Lost a 50 hp pump off thfe back of a sled. Thieves broke 4 1/2 stainless steel bolts that had the threads smashed so only way off was to break em.. I ended up with the wrenches. Wish this board had been around then I am sure it would have been found. It was unique..

Bottom line seems to be if they see it and want it it is gone.

Watch E-Bay for it too.

sorry to hear about your theft, but this is a good place to post a description of the gear. boat motors are more likely to be found again, than rods. i am a boating deputy in california and have personally gotten 8 kickers back all related to one bad guy. start looking for newer kickers like yours with no decals or a non factory paint job. also get your serial numbers and make a police report. i run motors though the system all the time. most likely its some cranker who stole your motor and sold it for more powder. check the pawn shops, and dealers. i dont know oregon or wash laws but in ca we can put a hold a stolen, pawned item. anyways, dont give up on the reporting the theft, plus most insurance companies require a police report to complete a claim.

Some home owners insurance will cover the theft to $1000 but the deductable aplies. Would be covered on your boat insurance if you have it.

Get a dog.I do not live in a pretty part of town as of present.I sleep very well at night because I know that my two girls will let me know if anybody comes around that shouldn't.Thieves do not like dogs,they take it into consideration when they are casing the place.

I would definately report it as I am sure already did.Give us a description as we can start looking around here for the fence.With pierce county being the meth capitol ya never know.

The guy up the street has a big dog who sat there and watched them take his. The cops told me that this is a big racket and that the motors get taken out of state and sold to fences. My home owners will pay for it "the motor" but not the gear. I was trying to calculate how much that steelhead bag was worth. At least 40-50 plugs, at least 200 corkies. My fly boxes, a Lamson reel with 2 spools and 3 teeny lines. A leatherman tool, and just a whole bunch of odds and ends.. they don't even want to discuss that..

Going to call the company that makes the auto pilot and find out who orders just the controls for the thing without asking for the whole unit... thats whats going to get these guys caught. Made me take a hard look at my security around here. I have a drift boat that could be hauled so I am locking it up to a pole, and bought a hitch lock for the jet boat.

I hate to say this but insurance companies are the devil. Don't tell them what happened and then ask if they will cover it. Rather ask them under what conditions will they cover the loss of a kicker motor and fishing gear stolen from your property. Then fit your story so they will cover it. This is a little dishonest but screw the insurance companies, they will do it to you every chance they get. Insurance is the biggest legalized RACKET I have ever seen.

I feel for ya B-run, my father had his brand new 8hp honda stolen in the middle of the day while he was at work. Found out 2 months later they busted a meth lab couple miles down the road and there was all sorts of goodies just not the motor.

Fill out a police report.

Friend of mine lives in Lynnwood, had his kicker stoled back in late January. The thiefs broke the kicker mount to get the thing off. He found out it was some high school kids in his neighborhood, they pawned it for $100. The cops busted the pawnshop and got my buddy's motor back, we fished the Columbia with it last week, still works fine.

There are some good endings to these stories.
