Yeah, yeah, I know this is a board about fishing, and its all fine and well to exchange info about techniques, spots, etc. But some of you guys really should excercise a bit of restraint and common sense when psting the names and locations of certain, smaller streams and rivers that cannot take the added pressure of a hundred million fishermen that read about it on the BB. Part of what makes these smaller rivers so good is the relative lack of pressure that they get. You all need to remember that when you post on the BB, you are not just posting for the other board members, you are also posting for the countless lurkers on the BB. Lets use our heads a little bit, boys.

If I had a secret I don't suppose I'd like it too much to see it posted on the internet, come to think of it I might actually have a thing or two up my sleeve... As much as that would pain me if it did happen I might wait till it made its way to the bottom of the board...that way most people might not figure out which post you are talking about... Two sides to the issue though right? One of the main reasons I hang around here is every once in awhile I get an answer to the one of those questions that's been bugging me. For example "I wonder what x river is like" or "I wonder if there is a back way into river x". Plus I am likely to reserve judgement on what the true impact of posting tidbits about an obscure fishery is until I witnessed it myself. What are we talking like maybe five people might hit it once or twice?? Of course, this is the internet. One of those five could return from the trip with a ten fish day story and post it with the GPS coordinates of every hole in which he caught fish. That would suck!! Personally if it were to happen to one of my Aces I might try not to make too big a deal out of it...kinda adds fuel to the fire.

Zo,
Just wondering, are you referring to the references to the Kalama that have just recently been made? Just curious. I have never considered it a remote or obscure fishery and I've never seen it referred to as such on this board. I mean I-5 runs over it. There is a road that runs all the way up it. There are pull-offs everywhere. There are campgrounds. There are two baitshops, both of which offer reports on conditions and fishing. There are yearly gripe sessions about the snaggers. Periodically, we have advertised clean-up parties up and down the river and put the word out on the board. Then again, the subject has never been addressed directly.
I have posted reports from time to time from the Kalama, as have others who have been around on this board awhile. I used to do it a lot more than I do now. I've never really thought that those reports and postings would touch any nerves among those who disfavor publicity for lesser-known fisheries.
And I really don't know whether you are referring to the Kalama postings or have simply waited until the subject river postings have dropped off the radar screen to voice your concern in order not to draw more attention to an already sensative subject. Help me out here. I'm a pretty good-natured guy and I wouldn't want to be offending anyone unintentionally, at least not anyone with a valid concern. Even then, I ought to know if what I post might be rubbing someone's rhubarb the wrong way.

I think most fishermen on this board are pretty savy about not revealing exact locations. Think about it. The best fishermen are the ones who know the best locations and times to fish. They also know better than anyone, that competition from other fishermen is one of the biggest limiting factors in salmon/steelhead fishing success. When I give info on a river, I give general information and info related to what stretch of river and what types of water to look for. I'm trying to help someone have a good time, but I'm not going to steer them to a specific current seam or tailout. Those are privy to only a select few!

To everyone who replied: You had some very good points, and yes, I had every intention of biting my lip on this one, but it didn't work out that way. Nobody who repled here on this thread was targeted as the "culprit". I will say this however, Posting names and directions on the BB can and does have negetive effects, as I have seen firsthand. Tailrat: Shoot me an E-mail.

Maybe Bob could edit names of rivers like he does foul language???
Example: I hiked 10 miles into the ******* river with my snoopie rod and didnt catch a ******* thing.
How bout it?????

LZZ, I saw the same post that you are referring to! I resisted posting a response as I did not want my anger to draw attention to said small river. I like the way you handled it. Lets hook up one day to fish...I have a feeling that you and I fish a lot of the same small rivers. FJ...out.

Here we go again whine, cry, whimmper, don't talk about my river, don't talk about my holes. What's the problem you guys can't catch any fish unless you get to fish alone and in front of untouched fish.
I thought this site was about all the things we injoy about fishing, boasting, teaching, lying, and maybe every once and a while giving a little information.
I think Bob needs to make some instant graemlins with tears steaming down for whinning posts like this one.
The next time I read a post like this one myself and all of my 22' jet boat owning friends will be coming to fish with you.

Mic, 6 posts in 15 months? Aren't you the big contributor. Tell us all now why aren't you giving up any spots with all that fishing you do? Hell your not even sharing so what are you even talking about. FJ...out.

I also fish the river that was posted. I have resisted posting on this topic until I saw Mic's post . Some rivers cannot handle the potential pressure that can come from posting on message boards. There is not a huge run of fish so don't think anyone is trying to hide anything. This subject has been discussed here before and for the most part it is understood. I don't own any river and only post on the rivers that are well known and can handle the pressure. I have seen a few areas I have fished in the past go to hell when they were placed in the F&H news and newspapers. I don't think there are secret locations left but it is nice to be able to fish areas where you don't have to bring your own rock once in a while. In my opinion this topic and the other topic should be removed all together.

I'd love to see Mic and all his Jettin' friends trash their sleds trying to run up the Little North Fork Zipperlip! FJ, you're absolutely right. Little Zozo, illustrates your point, doesn't it. Who knows how many selfish people are screening these boards for info without contributing anything.

I know I try and contribute info on the bigger rivers... As for the smaller rivers it's time that some of you lurkers get off your butt and go for a hike and see what's out there. That's how I learned and beleive me it's a 1000 times more rewarding knowing something that someone else doesn't know. Keith

Fishing is supposed to be fun. I enjoy quite, fish filled pockets of small rivers with no one around. But anyone wih a free hour can find every zipper lip in the state, without even using this BB. Even when the best time to fish is. One other good thing about out of the way holes is that most slob fisherpeople will not hike their lazy butts into them. If they cannot drive to the spot or have to carry their cases of white label beer more then 10 feet they will go else where. Anyone who does hike in is normally good person, willing to share. This may not apply in all cases, but it does in most. If you want quite, spend half a day hiking up to remote trout lakes and ponds with a ultra light pole or fly rod.
