Anyone out there try the new Luhr Jensen lighted K-13 kwikies?? They've got one now that actives (blinks) when it comes in contact with water. Looks to be a cool little invention. Just wondering?? Keith

Keith, I bought one for the novelty. Tried it once, but only for about 30 minutes, no takers on it. I'm going to try it again tomorrow at dusk. I seem to recall someone posting here a few weeks ago that they had one and did very well with it.

Keith,
I've used one quite a bit this spring, no takers on it. It has a white LED, that flashes red. It isn't as bright as a vortex or a lightfish. One nice thing so far though....No leaks. No batteries to f-with. That in itself makes it a great plug. I'm going to experiment more this summer w/it.
Gonna fish it against a vortex and see which plug works better. My bet is on the vortex, but those things require so much work to keep running.
Later,
Aaron

I used the one Jellyhead mentioned during the F4 event. Fishing was slow but the K-13 with the glow stripe down the back and red flashing light got 2 out of the 4 fish caught, the 3rd fish was caught with the black with red light. During the two days we fished, we had 4 poles in the water most of the time and 2 where lighted K-13's and 2 where other k-fishies. 3 for the light and 1 for non-lighted. I could not get the K-13 to run true with a wrap on it, I tried every different way. If anyone has a good way please let me know.

JR,
I've been running mine at night or in early morning conditions (Low light). It doesn't suprise me that they work during the day, they're just a regular k-13 then.

You aren't kidding these should work... I plan to catch several fish on them. I too want to compare them to the Vortex's. I've had great luck on the vortex's for the summer run steelhead... Where did you get the idea of Vortex's Jellyhead?? Keith

Actually, Keith, I just saw them one day and thought "hey those ought to work!" Actually, Fear no Fish's tips on keeping the damn things working have kept me fishing them, otherwise I would have s*** canned them long ago. What pieces of crap for the money, but hey, they work. Night fishing has been fun for me. I like trying new things. For the money I've spent in lighted kwickfish, vortexes, spinning-glos, and lightsticks, I could have bought a whole tackle shop full of regular gear. But it's fun fishing at night.... Everythings quieter, and you never know what you've got till you get it in the light at the net, Fun stuff!! BTW, anyone try out the new "blue" glow stuff yet? Aaron

Never tried out any of the new blue glow stuff, what the heck is that anyhow?? I have had my days with the vortex's at night for summer runs, and yes there's not much fishing that's better than a peiceful night on the river alone backing them through a run and having the rod bury... I use clear tape and tape the glow sticks to the rod tip to see the action of the vortex. I also use 30lb tuf line to enhance the action of the tip of the rod to see what the plugs are doing. One major downfall to the vortex's is they don't float and typically where you find summer runs at night is in the extremely slow water. So it takes a bit of experience to keep the vortex's working. But as for the lighted K-13 kwikies, do these buggers float?? Another quick story about the Vortex's. I had one I named "blackie" because it was the black vortex and this thing caught fish everytime it was put in the river. One night we anchored at one of our favorite holes here on a SW WA river and I fell asleep in the bottom of the sled with my rod in hand.. I awoke after who know's how long and had Mr. Steelie tugging hard... The problem was I thought I was dreaming it so in the dream I set the hook as hard as I could and when I awoke I reeled in the bill to my favorite Vortex.. So moral to the story, be very careful with tufline on these plastic lures... Don't set the hook too hard.. I'm still sick after losing "blackie".. Keith

Keith, The new blue glow is supposed to last longer per flashing charge than the regular greenish glow that is available in most corkies or spin-n-glows. As far as vortexe's go, I use a bell when fishing (sleeping) at night. Of course I'm usually anchored. Sorry to hear about ol' blackie. I hope you're using steel leader and 40lb. test while using that lucky k-15 w/all the teeth marks in it. I'd hate to get an invite to that plug's funeral Aaron

Yeah, that kwikie of mine has caught too many fish. I want to retire it but don't believe in retiring plugs. I also lost a wiggle wart about 2 years ago in the flourescent orange. It was a plug that I had caught about 100+ silvers on and it nearly looked white from all the teeth marks on it... I still remember all my buddies laughing at me when I broke the silver off.. It's amazing what the buddies will see as humor where I saw it as my best friend dying... Keith
