For shad, I’ve found that from SHORE the amount of flow on the Columbia greatly determines where the shad will be. I haven’t fished the Gorge from a BOAT yet.

Please tell me WHERE the shad usually are, fishing from a boat in the Gorge, when the following Bonneville total flows (not “spill”) occur:
200,000 CFS?
300,000 CFS?
400,000 CFS?

Also, at roughly what flows/clarity does the shad fishing in the Gorge get poor (if any)?

Thanks!

Tips:

http://www.cbr.washington.edu/dart is maybe the BEST source of flows/adult-passage info!

I have it on good authority that this year’s flows will be quite high in June.

At Cascade Locks (not to be confused with Cascade Island) I don’t bother going for shad until flows get above 385 KCFS.

Right below John Day dam I prefer around 310 KCFS.
