I was reading thru the regs. Looking at their decription for the duwamish water way. They say a night closure and terminal gear limited to bait below a bober. July - October I saw a lot of people last year fishing for coho trolling mag worts and the like. Some using herring and casting spinners. Was this all illegal or did they change it around this year. I could not find a description of terminal gear in the regs. I called the local wdfw office and they said I think it means the lure or bait you are using is the terminal gear. I cant get a strait answer out of them hopefully someone here will know. I was hoping to do some coho fishing after sept 1 with plugs but from what I can tell that would be illegal.

Here is my interpretation of WDFW's wonderfully complicated regs: The "mouth" of this river is the 1st Avenue bridge (2nd bridge up). Between there, heading downstream, to about 1/4 mile beyond the next bridge (West Seattle Freeway) you must use a bobber and bait. For the rest of the way out (to Elliott Bay)you can use plugs, etc.

I have often wondered why more people do not try bobbers in this area. After reading the regs over and over again I was convinced this was the right interpretation but I was put off by the fact that I never saw anyone fishing this area. And since the WDFW loves to strip you clean for a violation in such a public area, I was afraid to try it. The situation was also complicated by the fact that the WDFW published an emergency rule change covering this area and the wording was so confusing I could not understand what they were trying to say. It seemed like the emergency rule change did not say anything.

The bobber/bait thing is new this year. frown We used wiggle warts also last year and tore it up below the 1st. Ave bridge. That was a lot of fun.

i remember fishing green river (up stream from there a good bit) several years ago for silvers, it was a blast. it's funny how when your fishing for kings you say "oh i've only caught a couple of silvers" but when it's silvers your after, what a blast. when do they typicaly move into the river? i'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for the replys. I work next to the river in southcenter. I can walk out the door and walk to it in about 10 seconds. Last year about the first week in september, You could watch the coho jump all over the place and I am talking hundreds of them. I was at the first ave bridge and watching everyone fish and there were hundreds jumping the whole time. I might have to try it. So if I put a mag wort on my line and power bait on the hooks then but a slipping bober about 45 feet up the line would this be legal. laugh laugh

O.K., there has been a rule change. Anyone talking strategy on this part of the river for this year? Slip bobber with herring? Shrimp? What ideas do you have? I was thinking of trying a slip bobber with herring or shrimp myself. I also thought of giving the wigglewort on the inner Elliott Bay a go maybe....

All right, all right. How about this. Troll a 4 inch bobber with a 10 foot leader, 4oz of lead and a herring painted orange with black stripes.... eek eek

Did you check out the Seattle Times fishing section? They mentioned the Sammamish chinook fishery. It stated that there may not be many if any fish in yet due to water temp in the Sammamish slough. What do you think?

I think it should still be worth a shot. I don't think we will get any rain till October.
