This BB is as much entertainment as informative sometimes. The thread about the Skookumchuck and salmon for the freezer which led mostly to a string of replies about its status as a zipperlip is but a recent example. Did anyone notice that topic was begun by Hobiecat's third post? Maybe he didn't know he was inquiring about a zipperlip and that most BB members disdain mentioning such rivers on the web. If this is really important, then this BB does need a censorship filter, like the sites that screen out swear words. I'd like to see the list of well known rivers that the members suggest be screened out as zipperlips! LOL.

My thought is that zipperlips don't have fish hatcheries and large rearing/release ponds or large developed parking lots, for starters, but I realize opinions may vary. I think the Skook really was a zipperlip back before Pacific Power built the steam plant and the fish hatchery. Then there was nothing but wild cutthroat, steelhead, and usually fewer salmon around. And no parking lots because there were very few fishermen.

Another funny thing about that thread is that no one just gave a simple answer to Hobiecat's question. Like maybe: most salmon are pretty dark by the time they enter the Skookumchuck. Anglers wanting a few salmon for the freezer or smoker get a better quality fish by fishing the lower reaches of the Chehalis River, to which the Skook is tributary.

LZZ, buddy, you got to stay off the computer after closing down the bar. You become your own worst nightmare when you do that. Same thing happened last year, remember?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Alas Salmo, fall has returned once again to the Pacific northwest. Something about rivers being full of salmon serves only to reiterate what Charles Darwin theorized back in the late 1800's. Yes, man truly did evolve from the apes. All the evidence needed to prove his theory is present at pretty much any deep hole where the salmon congregate. cool

Yeah, Yeah, I know. You'd think I'd learn my lesson by now. Hey at least its just drinking and posting, not drinking and driving.

right on salmo!! I've gotta admit that I've authored posts after returning from an extended 12 oz curl workout but I only flamed the WDFW, Slade Gorton etc. I thought that that thread really epitomized (not the right word...) what this B-Boared has transformed (evolved?) into over the years. A lotta carp in that thread......

And it's not GRAMMER either, LZZ, although you were one letter closer that the previous guy's try. laugh

Guys, if you have a zipperlip river, bite your lip when it gets mentioned! Leave the room, slam your finger in a drawer, whatever it takes to take your mind off of it. Yes, it's already been said, but for cryin' out loud that thread called so much attention to the river that even I wanted to run down there just to see what all the fuss was about, and I hate driving.

I usually just ignore comments about small streams I fish all together unless I think one quick answer will send the guy on his way. The last thing you want to do is chew the guy out, because you KNOW everyone will take sides and you'll have another 2 page thread.

I sympathize, but prefer a different route.

I also try to stay away from forums when I've been down to the brewery. wink

My 2 cents:

Use e-mail if you want to help someone out, but want to be stealthy about it. Don't respond at all if you don't want to attract attention to the crick in question.

Some folks have been known to respond with a bit of misdirection, as in, "Been fishing there for two weeks, haven't caught squat, nor have any of my buddies."

If the stream has a boat ramp on it, you'll have a lot of work to do to get me to think it's a zipper. I still may choose not to speak about it, but I don't hink it's fair to climb somone's backside if they do mention it. This is, after all, a forum for the sharing of information.

Drinking and posting is what it takes to keep using these dam boards, so much of the same old same old re-hashed that it makes it interesting when you get a few guys posting and slammin down as they do so.
I don't have a problem with it, makes for some fun exchanges.

Wait, wait, wait. It's gotta be GRAMMER.... If not, then what is the proper spelling of the word?

What we need is a list of these rivers in order to avoid a faux pas.

Better yet, a list of the exact GPS coordinates of hot spots would insure that they never get mentioned.

wink

PS: Would someone please tell me what LOL means?
