I am of course talking about the Washougal Salmon hatchery!!!

Or at least end the production of Tule Fall chinook for sport fisherys.
There is NO NONE NADA of a lagit sport fishery on the Washougal for Fall chinook! it is 100% snagging.

Oh wait 99% snagging the other 1% it the poor sob that hears how good the run is wastes his valuable
time and money to go out and get skunked . If someone tells you they caught a fall chinook in the washougal it was snagged!!
As I said there is NO legit chinook fishery on the Washougal! next time I drive up the river I am writting own licensplates and vehicle descriptions.
and I will post them here on this site.

RA3.....

Are you saying:

1. ALL the people fishing the Washougal are snaggers??

2. Tules will not bite ANY properly presented lure??

3. Hatchery fish just shouldn't be there??

4. Or a combination of the three??

I think if I was a person down there fishing, and saw my license plate and vehicle description posted here, I'd be mighty inclined to pursue legal action. This isn't likely to happen, as I can't imagine why I'd want a tule, but you get my drift.

If it's such wanton destruction, and I don't doubt you at all, then find a camera and camcorder and go to it!!! Enough evidence and the gamies will have to do SOMETHING.

Good Luck

I think you could expand this to the Elochoman, Toutle, Green, Kalama and Lewis Rivers.

It seems that snagging is a big problem that is happening on all the rivers. At least by the number of posts ive seen on this site and others. And I dont think shutting down the hatchery is the right answer. It wouldnt be fare to the fisherman like yourself that want to follow the rules and catch fish not snag them. Since most people carry cell phones why dont people that see these law breakers in action call the wdfw hotline 1-800-477-6224 or there are other numbers to call on page 6 of the fishing regs. Yes they are under staffed but if enough people called they might catch some of these people that are basicly stealing our fish. It might not help but it couldnt hurt either.
And wouldnt it feel good to see the man in green writing out tickets on your favorite fishing hole. And just maybe one of the fish the snaggers missed while standing there getting there ticket will have a chance to get to your hook.

The rogue

There are two kinds of people fishing for fall chinook on the Washougal
1. snaggers
2. people who don't know enough to know the difference
the latter i have sympathy for as they are wasting their time and money for nothing.

the tules once they enter the washougal river will not bite even properly presented baits. I lived on the banks of the river for 15 years and fished for them every year for many many hours and never caught one using any proper method. eggs drifted, eggs under a bobber, spoons , spinners, sand shrimp, plugs, jigs, flies.. you name it i tried it.

I don't care if there iis a hatchery there just saying that what they produce provides nothing for legit fisheries and promotes disgusting behavior in an ill legeitiment fishery..

trouter: i stick with what I know i figure snagging occurs there but i don't know that thats all that happens

duroboat: I have turned in snaggers more times than i care to count it's been my experience that nothing ever happens. heck one time i turned in a guy for shooting a deer out of season while shooting from the washougal river road and nothing came of that.
No one fishes the washougal using legit techniques. I just think that a lot of money is being spent to knowingly support an all snagg fishery and i think that is wrong.

You have got some MAJOR issues dude.

No I dont fish these rivers in fact I have never been to this river but for you to put 99% of the people that fish it into the catagory of snaggers is just flat wrong.

Im sure there are a fair amount that do snag as is with ANY river that has a decent amount of fish in it. Im also sure that there are a decent amount of actual FISHERMEN there doing by the book.

Let me guess you call anyone that drifts a corkie a snagger huh? rolleyes

Salmonmoocher having lived on the river for 15plus years i consider myself an expert about what occurs there and all of the chinook fishing i have seen go on there has been snagging. ALL of it!!!! Oaks park snagging, pool below the church pool snagging, hathaway park. snagging. Couger creek mega snagging.. dog hole. snagging.. Big eddy mega snagging. steel bridge pool mega snagging. Maybe not all the fish are snagged but all the fish are caught by snaggers. but go ahead and throw your corky and lead the game warden ain't gonna get you.. By the way i have been living with thoes stupid veiled threats all my life..

RA, I rhink what you say is true of lot of the rivers in WA.
I have never fished the Washougal but I know of other rivers where this happens daily.
I have also seen many sportsmen catch fish in snagger areas legally. It's not fair to label all who fishin those spot snaggers.
I have never fished the Quilcene R. before but we deceided to stop at that river this weekend since we were in the area, I felt the same way as you do about the Washogoul.
I am sure therer were legit fisherman, but lot of snagging and flossing.

You said you know this river, you have fished it for 15 years and know they don't bite, well it took you that long to figure this out, give others a break and let them figure it out too. It might not take others that long and few might take longer. As far as the snaggers go turn them in.

If you have proof then write the lic #, but you don't have the right to rec. all the plates just because they are there, that just moranic. rolleyes

Robert, nothing is black and white.

My ex brother in law has lived on the Washougal for 50 years (since he was born) and I've seen it all. Many people who grew up on that river harvested salmon and deer in the area in an unsportsmanlike manner to feed their families. There are also the "fisherman" who cannot grasp the ability to catch a fish or shoot a deer any other way.

Yes, the poachers and snaggers are there, but to saddle everyone with that is irresponsible and bound to raise the hackles of the unfairly labeled. Maybe you should moderate your blanket statement to get a fairer response and avoid baiting the people who would just as soon kick your a$$ for that kind of remark.

Pick pocket.. The ONLY!!!!! legit chinook anglers on the Washougal are thoes
that do not know about the river!! The local legit anglers do not fish for the
chinooks there. Sure there may be a few guys who happen to foul hook chinooks
in the face but there is no one out there using the river as a legit fishery.. I say that
in absolute black and white terms because that is the way it is..
The big problem is that the jerks at GI Joes tell all the poor saps
who don't know any better that chinooks are being caught in the Washougal on corkies.
so the guy loads up on corkies and goes out there and gets skunked and watches
everyone else snagging. There IS NO LEGIT CHINOOK FISHERY ON THE WASHOUGAL
NONE NADA ZERO!!!! The hatchery should be closed permanently so that these scumbags
will stop polluting the river with their presence!

Anyone who does not believe me should e-mail me and we will take a tour of the river this weekend..

Yo Rob,

Another point to ponder. Chinook production at the Washougal hatchery was probably intended more to provide an ocean commercial and sport fishery (Westport, Ilwaco etc...) and to supplement the buoy 10, and other lower Columbia fisheries more so than a terminal fishery in the river itself. If you closed the hatchery you would eliminate those opportunities that it provides. Maybe the answer is to close the river to chinook fishing? But then what would the hatchery do with the surplus? This problem is prevalent on EVERY RIVER in Washington State that has a salmon hatchery, not just the Washougal. Does that mean we close them all? Wait, don't answer that! I've got a feeling I know what you're going to say. wink

Dude, you're a real beauty. You are wound up tighter than a squirrel's a$$. The irony of the crap you posted here is great.

The typical RA3 post consists of 'close the hatcheries because the hatchery fish will pollute the native population'. I won't bother to post my opinion on this since it doesn't matter.

Now you are pissed because there are a bunch of guys/gals snagging these tired old boots from the river after the escapement is met, which means these fish would be left in there to rot or attempt to spawn with the few nates that remain. Therefore, the snaggers are basically helping to remove them out of there so they won't get a chance to spawn with any nates, doing your 'nate only' platform a service, and this is upsetting to you.

The reason behind there being a hatchery there to begin with is covered by 4salt's post. They didn't build it so RA3 could have his own private Idaho in no-wheres-ville, WA.

Please reference the other post about drinking and posting. This should hold true for hitting the bong, to. Seek help!

Well, I'm glad that hatchery is there. Cause that means that many more scum snaggers are off the rivers I fish.
