I was trying to figure out why fishing for coho had turned off so dramatically Mon thru Wed of this week out of Meadow Point.

Initially I thought it could be related to the full moon and clear nights allowing the fish to feed at night. When I asked the WDFW fish checker about this I was told that if I believed in the 'old wives tale' that it could be true. Otherwise there was no conclusion given to me.

Later I thought about it and came to believe that it was probably related to the intense pressure from the derby ( and some poor fishing techniques on my part rolleyes ).

I am wondering though, I have fished at night before and found that fish feed more readily on a full moon so wonder if there is any truth to the 'old wives tale'. I have also fished daytime during the Harvest Moon and found that the bite is pretty poor.

What do you think?

Fishing was tough this weekend. The Moon was incredible. I slept on the flying bridge on a cot both Friday and Saturday night. You could hear fish all over the place. Here is Ratherbfishin's (Barry's) report he sent to the masses.

Coho Mission 20 –22 Sep 2002

The crew of the Amy Lynn was skunked this week. We looked like fisherman,
drank like fisherman, smelled like fisherman, but no catching.

Barry, Griffy, Dan, Zak, Colin left Shilshole Friday night for Possesion
Point where we anchored on the east side. Saturday morning we fished around
Possesion with no takers. We travelled west hoping to intercept and ambush.
Went all the way to Double Bluff. We saw one fish caught in Useless Bay.
There were only a handful of boats there. Saturday evening we motored back
to Possesion to anchor out. At Possesion bar the birds were going nuts all
over. We thoguht we were in it! We got a double and a triple on Dogfish for
our efforts. No Coho.

Sunday morning we trolled Possesion, trolled to Edmonds and to Shoreline. We
had one fish on the whole weekend. We did not hear of too many other fish
being caught. We are beginning to question our skills, and our
reputation is certainly at stake. We quit questioning our sanity long ago.

We need Rain.
