I'm heading to Puerto Vallarta in a few weeks and wanted to bring some rod/reel combinations with me to give out to the local kids at the fishing pier. During my last trip I stopped by the pier on a daily basis to check out the action and noticed most of the locals fishing hand lines.....I assume because a fishing rod is an item most people just can't afford. At any rate, I'm hoping I can find some functional rods/reels for anywhere from $5 to $20. Has anyone come across a good sale at a local store or know of any pawn shops in the Seattle area with gear that might work. Thanks for any suggestions.

Little fish,

You may want to check out some of the shops there in PV once you get there!

I was in Mazatlan this time last year, and saw tons of schools of "toritos" baby tuna, up and down the beach at the resort I was staying at. I was dying to find some gear to fish for them, so I went all over Mazatlan unitl I found a sporting goods store that had some gear. I ended up bying a Eurostar telescopic rod and a Eurostar spinning reel to throw castmasters at them. I was amazed at how checp the stuff was. I got the whole set up for 20 bucks, including Maxima line. Also Cool because now I have a telescopic setup I can bring next time I go out of the country and want to bring an all purpose rod.

I bet that if you did some research prior to your trip, you might find a cheap source for that kind of stuff while in Mexico.

There is also a little village north of PV called Sayulita. It is a fishing village and has a couple good tackle shops.

Nice of you to do that for them. Hope you have a good trip. beer

Thanks for the input everyone. Good ideas Sky-Guy. I'm putting out my feelers right now to see what will be available in PV.
