I am wanting to get a new rod for christmas and decided it was time to try out jig fishing. eek
So I am asking for recommendations on a good rod to get me started, I am looking for something round the 10' range and price is a factor in my decision, thanks for any input.

personally i'd go with the allstar 1264 spin or cast. they make both. the casting model is 1/4-1oz 10-20lb test. mod fast med heavy. sportco in fife has them for either $99.99-116.00.

Banki,

You might want to reference a recent thread, "Best Jig reel & rod combo?", for more great info.

I ended up with a 10' "Herzog" by Lami, tough choice between it and the 10.6' "Vedder". The AllStars look like a sweet deal, but inventory was thin where I was looking at the time. Good luck.

I bought a Shakespeare Intrepid 10'6'' light agtion. ITwas $49 at GI Joe's in Oregon.
You Don't need anything real spendy for jig fishing . Length to hold as much line off the water and to mend line for a drag free drift is more important. I am approching 90 summer run steelhead with this rod this year.
Hope this helps.Good luck with jig fishing.

When fishing really lite for steelhead with a bobber and jig I use a light action 9 1/2 bobber rod.
Look into a 9 1/2 foot rod or a 10 foot rod. Does not have to be anything special just something that can toss a small bobber with a jig on it.
