I haven't heard any reports from the Narrows Derby yet. Did anybody fish it today? Downrigger, how about you? I was thinking of fishing Pt. Defiance tomorrow morning and was hoping for some good news.

Great Derby! 30-40 fish came in out of 108 entries, mostly 5#r's. Big fish was a little over 11# followed by a couple 9#'s.
Was a beautiful morning until 1045 when the wind hit and hit hard. Spun my boat right around. I hit my fish at 10 minutes later and headed in quickly. Folks fishing off PD and Dalco had a fun ride back to Narrow's- 40 kt head wind and 4-5 foot wind waves!
Dangerous Dave and I had to work hard for a couple 5#'r and Spawnout took 6th with a 7 1/2#'r . DD hit his fish on a Sonic Edge, Spawnout hit his on a Coko Killer, and mine hit a B-2 with a Spin n' Glo in front. Our three boats fished off Green Pt. Lots of other board member in the derby.... Too Many to list! When I get the finalized list of events, I'll post them. Again, great derby.
Heads up. Plan for another derby in February.

What a great derby!!! Haven't had as much fun in a long time. Like DR said, I got one that was barely legal, but it was still a fish. The weather couldn't have been better till later in the morning when the wind picked up. I can't think of much I'd rather do on a Saturday morning than fish for a few hours...come back to the marina for some lunch and meet 108 really neat guys that have the exact same interest that I do. Didn't win with my fish today, but my son won some pretty cool charts of the Puget Sound and I won a nice green flasher.... A big thanks to the folks that own/run Tacoma Narrows Marina....Great Derby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the report guys! It's much appreciated. Sounds like a good time was had by all. I couldn't go out today for I had too many honey do projects to do. I have pants at home, but I certainly don't wear them I'm going to watch the weather close if I'm going to go tommorrow. Thanks again

Ditto, fun derby and great to meet people from the board. Can't wait until the next one. Although I didn't win any weight categories, I caught one of those 5/6 pounders and came away with a flasher. All was good except the ride back from the Point, which was exciting in my 16 footer. JMS

On my way back in for my fourth beer I accidently clipped a rod rack- oops! But you can't have much more fun than that after a morning of fishing! I had a great time and want to thank Narrows for sponsoring such a great event. I wish it was an on-going tournament- we could all go "pro" on a monthly basis. My only sponsor so far has been no worries and I am afraid that bringing donuts isn't going to keep that going much longer if we don't at least place in the next derby.

JTD,
with my boat eating about 20 gallons per hour the donuts are not going to cut it. I vote for the monthly derby so we can all have an excuse to play and maybe get paid........

Hey DR, Have you had a chance to check out the damage from your class "C" that you had on Saturday. Hope all is in working order.
Hope to do some fishing out by Yukon Harbor with DD now that area 10 is back open, l'll drop you a line when we head out there to see if you are interested.
Great job on the Derby to the folks at Narrows. That was my first Narrows Derby...but it won't be my last!

UM,
I haven't dug in there yet. Had a funeral yesterday and today I have the "blues" for the next 24 hours.
I really need to jump in there because I think there is more wrong. Was flushing the engine out Sat and the alarm sounded. Lower end was hotter than hell.

DR you really need to check that motor out and find out what's wrong. When "Olympic Boats" said that water NOT coming out of the tattletale is NORMAL..I wave the BS flag! Hopefully your downrigger isn't toast. Is anyone planning on fishing the Discovery Bay Derby????? Looking forward to the next Narrows derby.... Area 10 should be looking good. I'm ready to fish..Took 3 days off from fishing and have the FEVER again.

DD,
Looks like I am a go for Discovery Bay. Let's hope for decent weather and this derby doesn't conflict with Narrow's. Last time I took Hwy 3 in Feb, I slide sideways in ice halfway down the hill before the Chevron... Think God for underwear!

Spawnout, This is the only info currently published I could find. I need to head up in that area for an "Intelliigence Mission" - horseback riding- wives thing you know. $3,000 is a real nice payday in my book! Downriggin'

Thanks for the derby info DR - shoulda thought to look there Does seem to conflict with the Sekiu derby - and that's ok, maybe cut down on the competition. Sekiu in the winter is a bit more exposed than Disco Bay Not a good place for my little tin can. Probably going to spend opening weekend up that way, I'll mostly fish Midchannel but probably will try to figure out where the slabs are off Diamond Point too. I'll be up at Green Point Sunday morning, and am even thinking about giving it a try tomorrow afternoon as I'm working up that way and may get done a bit early - might as well bring my boat

Ripped the wires out yesterday and will be replacing them today. Thank goodness I still have power on the down rigger...
Will be taking the boat for a load test on the engine this afternoon after I replace the wiring to the down rigger.
Should be off Green Friday morning. Spawn... Probably won't see me Sunday as I have to work late...

Hey Downriggin! The next derby you should take your little girl with you! I just re-read your posts on why do kids outfish their dads- maybe she can win the thing for you!
Seriously funny about the gamie giving you crap because her punch card was triple yours. Great thing is she'll remember this forever and make some lucky young man a great fishgal!

Hey all you dusky-lipped salmon fans, I took my new "derby rod" (the one I got for 6th place in the Narrows Derby ) out to Green Point today and broke it in with a 5 pounder and a couple of shakers in about an hour of fishing. Fished the afternoon incomer and hooked the biggest one about an hour and a half after the tide change, on the same rig I used last Saturday - poor ol' Coho Killer sure is getting a lot of teeth marks in it. Got relatives to visit on Friday and Saturday but I'll be out there to collect another one early Sunday morning
