This thread reminds me of that old Cheech and Chong segment from the 70s where Officer Friendly comes to school for the anti-drug lecture.

It was something like Officer Friendly shows the students a baggie of marijuana and asks "OK kids, does anybody know what this is?"

Student replies:

UW here too. You have my sympathy. Just had to poke a little fun at ya'. I got an education there too, but it wasn't what I had in mind (68-76). And I'm anything but anti-cannabis. I'm a drug Libertarian; legalize 'em all. The war on drugs is beyond stupid. In 1996 the estimated value of illegal drug traffic in the U.S. was $100,000,000,000. The cost that year for the war on drugs was $105,000,000,000. Declaring drugs illegal is good for two groups: drug trafficers and drug law enforcement. It's high profits for one and job security for the other. OK, my little drug rant is over.

When I was growing up my old man taught me to never look for trouble and to avoid fights if at all possible. That said, he also told me if anyone ever hit me, to hit them back ten times harder, and if the guy is a big fuc%er, find something hard to hit him with. The Twin Towers and 5000+ American lives is fare trade for the entire Middle East in my mind.

Banana=2 Oz./In.
Length Rope=Age Monkey
Monkey Wt.(Oz.)=Monkeys Moms Age
Monkey Age+Moms Age=30

(Monkey/2)+Banana=(Rope Wt.+Hanging Wt.)/4
Therefore, Monkey+4Banana=Rope Wt.

x=Monkeys Age
y=Moms Age

y=3x/2
x=30-y
Therefore, y=3(30-y)/2
y=18
x=12

Rope=12'
Wt. Rope=0.333(12)=3.99 Lbs=63.99 Oz

Substitute into above: 18 Oz + 4 Banana = 63.99 Oz

Banana=11.49 Oz
11.49 Oz / (2 Oz/In) = 5.75"

sol- but wont a circle have a surface area that ends in a repeating decimal that is not attainable with a square? i cant remember where i got that one from ,but i think it was from a sandwich shop on mercer island where a math proffesor puts up math problems and if the kids can solve it, they get a free sandwich.

my neighbor is a math proffessor and he loves to solve problems and stump me with em...... im a square headed sweed., so they take me quite a while

Lupo: Thus my statement about more parameters. That problem could be solved up to a couple of decimal places, but like you pointed out, Pie goes on in a non-repeating sequence of decimals to infinity, which would yeild an area unattainable with square geometry.
