Count me in as agreeing. I doubt even the Rory's of this world will want to defend such a patently stupid move. Bush just never fails to amaze me.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Good enough, Salmo..."chumming the electorate" it shall forever be.
Besides, it's a lot more PC than my usual designation for this practice and the ignorant tools used to make it work...and the naughty word filters don't edit out half of my explantion that way, either.

Too bad they couldn't find the 'nads to overide the veto. 75 vs 25 in the poll I saw in favor of stem cell research. His action was incomprehensible to me. Are there that many votes on this issue to be snared for the party?

I doubt that anyone will change their mind and not like Bush now, and that a few more of those above referenced tools out on the margin might get on board, so I guess there won't be a net loss of support.
As soon as we have a new POTUS, from either party, this will probably come up again, and hopefully have a more sensical result.

Darn! and I was hoping that he would see that we could maybe fix those gays by hacking up those embryos. I give him credit for doing what he believes is right, even if it's not. (that's right, stir it gently now )

I've said before, with The religious Wingnuts, 'the right to life ends at birth.'

I can't beleive that you guys are all so united on this one. I won't take the bait as I can't say that I know enough about the issue to defend Bushes position, but I do admire the fact that he stands up for what he believes in. Now, if he called around first to see if it would stand, that I would bash him for. This is not necessarily a right or wrong issue, it is, I feel, definitely a grey issue for most Americans. Having been faced with the issue of IV fertilization, I feel very lucky not to have had to deal with it. That said, I am very anti-abortion. Having a wife who has gone through more than one miscarriage and then was willing to do anything to have a baby, I have a hard time telling someone- don't worry its just a fetus. Tell that to anyone who just had a miscarriage of a baby they wanted and then watch what happens. And Ichtyoid you really want me to take the bait, but I just don't have the time. That said, I will say that the right to choose your own life does to a start after birth. Hopefully you are smart enough to figure that out.

but I do admire the fact that he stands up for what he believes in. Hitler; PolPot; Jung Il; Ahmadinejad; Stalin... Just a few others known to stand up for what he believes in... Same admiration?

Harley, only an idiot would fail to see that trying to save lives (which is what he feels he is doing)is different from killing thousands, but then, you are a liberal aren't you? And I would much rather have someone like Hitler openly state his beliefs so we could eradicate him, then have him lie and to trick people into thinking he belives something else. If you think bush is wrong, and such an idiot, then vote him out. The problem with most people is that they believe that anyone with an opinion different them must be an idiot. Maybe you feel that everyone who is not a liberal is an idiot, thats ok. I guess there is also a reason you and the rest of the liberals are so much against cutting welfare.

Geez, I was merely pointing out that admiring someone simply because they "stand up for what they believe in" is questionable.
I didn't call anyone an idiot, those are your words.
Kerry stood for what he believed in when he returned from Vietnam and the conservatives didn't take too kindly to that, now did they?
Murtha stands for what he believes in...
etc., etc., etc...

<-----shakes head, clearing imaginary fog I'm sorry. I must have missed it. Just what was it that Kerry did stand for?

Kerry believed that by protesting the war upon his return he could get the attention of Congress and bring an end to the war sooner, thus saving many American lives.
That's pretty common knowledge now, and whether you believe as he does is irrelevant to the conversation. I cited him as an example of someone that stands by his beliefs and convictions yet many abhor him for those beliefs even though they may admire bush for standing by his ill beliefs.

Ah....the old, "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." Sounds very liberal to me. Kerry lost the election because he couldn't put together a clear, cogent, and convincing argument HOW he planned to do anything. Even he asked of his campaign gurus, "What exactly is our theme?" Yeah, that's a guy I want to follow...NOT.
But back to the topic. I responded partly in jest, partly in disgust to the original topic, yet got not a response. Sacred ground, or what? The object of the inane question was to provoke a response from those who regard Bush as stupid. I guess I shouldn't have been so subtle, and simply said....If you guys think the President is dumb, then maybe you could have convinced him to go along with embryonic stem cell research, if you made him aware that perhaps the medical malady of gays could be cured. It's TIC for sure, but with just enough possibility.
