Bob Norman of New Times Broward-Palm Beach, has Republican congressman Mark Foley's number, and has had it for a while.

Turns out former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley was sitting around in his underwear sending e-mails to teen boys about masturbation, or “spanking it” as the Republican Congressman calls it. Brian Ross at ABC News got hold of the messages and when Foley found out, he quit almost on the spot.

The truly sad thing about this is that Foley has only confirmed the worst Christian Right stereotypes about gay men, stereotypes that of course are largely untrue. But then again he’s never represented or embodied the larger gay population. He’s a gay man in the closet at the age of 52 — and a Republican, no less. We should have all expected this kind of thing.

Interesting information in those e-mails, though. Foley, for those inquiring minds that want to know, likes to masturbate with lotion and a towel and considers 7 1/2 inches a great penis size.

We learn this while he’s chatting with a teenager who’s mother is yelling at him about his homework.

Yep, Foley is a goddamn predator.

Is this guy getting arrested and prosecuted? Even though this particular teen was over 16, he was still under 18 and I’m wondering if this case could fall under the statute which enlarges the age of consent from 16 to under 18 where the perpetrator is in a position of authority vis a vis the victim, e.g. a teacher. Also, this teen said he was “still a virgin” and there is (or was) language in the criminal statutes that pertains to perpetrators whose victims are “chaste” (?) at the time of the incident.

Anyway - is there an arrest in the offing? I hope this isn’t going to be swept under the rug or excused because he “admitted his problem” (but only after being outted and exposed as the pedophile he is). I’d hate to see a deal where they nolle pros the case in exchange ofr counseling. Now that would just be so wrong.

I am curios to know how the conservative Right views the upcoming investigation into Foley. The fact that he was co-founder and chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus is straight out of Robin William’s movie “BIRDCAGE.”

Where do you start with something like this. As a conservative, it makes me sick to see the republicans gloss over something like this. And don't think that the democrats might not have known about this and waited until election time to toss it out. I don't know any united states congressman, but have met a few state represenatives and politicans in the course of business. What has shocked me is that about half of them have struck me as complete idiots. Forget trying to discuss policies or ideas with them. They don't understand. At one time I e-mailed my council member about a lack of police response to a problem I was having. He wrote back that the department had a 97% success rate on all crimes and that they were doing a great job. In truth, this is probably the sucess rate of crimes they prosecute. Call them up and 90% they won't even take a report, though they might send you a form in the mail so you can report it to your insurance. This man was so ignorant, he didn't understand the basics. He finished his term in the council and was elected to a higher position. If you go into the county building, the first thing you will notice is that he as 5 or 6 pictures of himself in the main office (one room) and every piece of litature you get from his office has his picture and name slapped on the top. I guess thats how we know he's so good and smart.
Had other contacts personally with elected officals that were as or more stupid. They simply have the money and influence to get elected. I don't know where from as I sure wouldn't give them money. In the end we need to change this countries election policies and make it possible for the best man to win, not just the choice of the parties. How to do this? I have no idea. I just know that I am sick of the choices we have.

Watching the democratic stategists on the news tonight cracked me up. They were asked about Studds and his physical encounter with a 16 year old page a few years back and how it got rewarded with an appointment to a big committe and a standing ovation. Their reply was that the act in itslef is not the issue. The hypocrisy is. So Republicans are hypocrites when a few of them are caught spanking the monkey.
