Ok here goes, a few days ago my wife's mother fell in her home + was taken to the E.R. by ambulance to get checked out. (she was OK) My wife asked me to drive her to help her bring mom home, of couse I said yes. When we went to get in the car she put her mom's glasses on the back seat, and then started to put her walker in ontop of the glasses. I told her not to, so she put the glasses on the car's roof and asked me to grab them when I got in the car. Well, I forgot them, and they fell off + broke on the way. My wife thinks it's all my fault 100% + wants me to pay for a new pair-$163.00. I didn't tell her to put them on the roof, that's just stupid. I did forget to grab them. Maybe it's the principle of the thing, or?? Lets hear it out there, what the heck should I do ?

You must be newly married because if you've been married a long time you would know that no matter how much you are right and no matter what the circumstances there is no way in hell you will ever truly win an argument. You'll always be paying...one way or the other.

I'd just pony up the cost and forget about it. Piss on the principal. Either you and your wife are in this thing together or you're not. Seems like a minor thing to get in an argument about. Too many couples get at odds with each other over bs that, in the long run, don't amount to anything.

A rigid 56" graphite cane with a red tip can be purchased for $20. Books on tape can be checked out free at the local library. Problem solved for ten bucks apiece. The butt section of an old fishing rod would work as well as a cane, and cost you nothing. However, this is your mother-in-law we're talking about. I'd say go ahead and spend the money.

Thanks for the advice one and all. I thought it was interesting that 6 people replied- 5 guys + 1 gal, and the gal, AuntyM was the only one that felt my wife should pay half the cost. I learned long ago the secret to keep harmony with your sweetie is to agree with her, apologize alot and compliment her. I'll tell her she's right and buy the glasses, so I don't have to pay for them in other ways....

Tell Medicare/Medicaid that she broke her glasses when she fell and have the gubment give her a new pair.

Interesting........Do you and your wife keep seperate finances? My wife would have written the check (from our joint account)knowing to not even ask. It's the right thing to do. Buy the glasses, buy happiness. Simple question my friend.
