What Happened? At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end!
Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule.
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries, then Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his ass
Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers, Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid.
Put these words upon his tomb, "Taxes drove me to my doom..."
When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax.
Accounts Receivable Tax Building Permit Tax CDL license Tax Cigarette Tax Corporate Income Tax Dog License Tax Federal Income Tax Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA) Fishing License Tax Food License Tax, Fuel permit tax Gasoline Tax (42 cents per gallon) Hunting License Tax Inheritance Tax Interest expense Inventory tax IRS Interest Charges IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax) Liquor Tax Luxury Taxes Marriage License Tax Medicare Tax Property Tax Real Estate Tax Service charge taxes Social Security Tax Road usage taxes Sales Tax Recreational Vehicle Tax School Tax State Income Tax State Unemployment Tax (SUTA) Telephone federal excise tax Telephone federal universal service fee tax Telephone federal, state and local surcharge taxes Telephone minimum usage surcharge tax Telephone recurring and non-recurring charges tax Telephone state and local tax Telephone usage charge tax Utility Taxes Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Watercraft registration Tax Well Permit Tax Workers Compensation Tax
COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? And I still have to "press 1" for English

Great point on the "no national debt" and the "big middle class..." Very nice topic/post/comments!

We had a huge middle class a hundred years ago because we still had a big chunk of the population involved in agriculture. Taxes to pay for education were minimal because most people had far less than a high school education. We didn't have road taxes, gas taxes, or recreational vehicle taxes because none of those things existed.
I think the choice has been made by 98% of Americans that getting up at 430 AM to milk the cows sucks ass; that even a mediocre high school education is better than a third grade education; and I prefer truck exhaust to the smell that comes out of a horses ass.
It may not seem like progress to some, but I much prefer to pay the taxes than suffer the alternative.

I have driven a horse pulling a buck rake during haying and they say a farting horse is a working horse. I do know that the smell of a horses ass won't kill you anywhere near as fast the the truck's exhaust. And then the political horses asses are absolutly deadly. One of the byproducts of legislation. Death and taxes.

It does look like it may cause brain damage though. Just an observation.
I bet if milking cows paid well it would be a highly sought after job.

Stam, did you ever get milk in the cat's eye? I had a herd of them following me out to milk. I wished I would have gotten 2 bucks a milking.
KK I'll just ship my tax bill over to you, since you're so happy to pay them.

fhead5, how many udders did you stroke? Used to get up and help Uncle. He had 26 milkers. He could do 18 by the time I did 8 and a few cats too. lol Did wonders for your grip. So did plucking directionally impaired stlhead buzzards.

It's the abuse thats hard to control. You hit the nail on the head.
Sard, seems to me there were 12 cows. I was just the helper too.
Aunty, get your mind out of the gutter :p :p

So that I may earn some of Aunty's respect, I'm a former farmer, too. High school FFA president. I had six dairy cows, hand milked morning and night, seven days a week, sold cream to Lewis/Pacific Dairymen's Assoc. as a teenager. Consquently had all too little time for staying out late and getting in as much trouble as I would have preferred. Exhibited animals at the County fairs in the summer. Those were fun times, sleeping in the hay lofts of the exhibition barns. I had a thing for the girls from the McMonagle farm out by Yelm, but their dad was mean as a Holstien bull, but fortunately not as big.
Yeah, talk about a grip. I think my forearms were twice as big as my biceps. Oh god, I'm visualizing Popeye here.

Ok you udder milkers out there. Did you also have a separator, Armstrong type? The milking was tolerable in my youth, cleaning the stalls and shoveling out the milking area were not so nice. Cranking the separator was just damn hard work. We ran the separator and sold the whole milk, cream, churned butter and buttermilk as separate items at the local market. A 3 mile hike down the road to Goldendale, Wa. After the separator operation the thing had to be torn down and cleaned, the worst job of all. But good old day cream, the stuff that did not pour, was wonderful. Had to use a spoon to put it on the oatmeal.,

Uncle ran a bunch of Jerseys. Didn't produce as much milk as the Holsteins. Lot higher butter fat content tho'. And they were smaller and required less fodder.
