Antbody fishing in the derby this weekend? Demon Spey and I hit it today and got 8 and 9 pounders, nice fat fish. Sorry no pics, but tasted great. If anybody is fishing the derby, or thinking about it and has a spot for a second person on a better boat than mine, I would be willing to provide todays location and todays tips, along with bait and $$, or whatever. Just send me an e-mail if interested. NEN

I don't know the specifics other than the Geoduck Tavern/Restaurant in Brinnon sponsors a derby in the spring. Might want to give em a call.

Yes, it is a Blackmouth derby, It is this Saturday and Sunday, the 22 and 23. Sponsored by the Gooeyduck Tavern on Hwy. 101 in Brinnon. Typically, there are not a lot of fish caught and ends up a lot of prizes are given out. This year may be different as there seem to be a few more good fish around. Weigh in is at Pleasant Harbor or Seabeck marina and the awards are at the tavern. Sorry it was not as well known about, I guess it is more of a local thing. The food at the tavern is great and I think tickets can be bought there or at the Seabeck marina. I will pick up a flyer today sometime. I'm still interested if anybody else is!!! NEN

NEN,
Is this an annual event?
Come to think of it, I think I fished this derby almost 18 years ago! Might have been a different derby. I do remember 3 limits on the boat off of Seal Rock.
Hell, this might be the ticket to get the ol' lady out next year- crabbing and salmon! God forbid the temp is less than 75!
Downriggin'

Yah, Usually the crab season is closed down just as the salmon season opens. Maybe a convinent time for the quota to be caught. God forbid we have two things open at once. This year we did get two weeks with them both open, although the crab definately seem to be getting soft where I get them anyway. Still looking if anyone is interested??? Found out a little more info, cost is $5 for both days and is till 4 pm on Sat. and noon on Sunday. All people in the boat must have a ticket. NEN
