I've done both and more than once but I am a man of simple needs. That is;

Having the good fortune to eclipse the fifty # barrier five times and forties many more, I have never caught a steelhead over twenty four #'s and would love to smash that 25# mark in the worst way. Even after saying all that it would be impossible for me to vote on one or the other. Now, I will explain why. The best fights have not been the biggest fish of either specie. The best fights were 52# king and 18# steelhead.

Dutchman,
I caught a 21+ lb silver that year. I was out in area 11 . Took over 30 min. to get the fish in.The fish made some screaming runs and did alot of aerobatics. With the first jump my wife says "Its a nice king" But after afew more leaps I told here thats no king its a huge silver.
I have never caught a steelhead that would compare with that silver. But I have never caught a steelhead that big so I really cant compare the two.

I'd have to say the steelhead. Got the first over fifty king to the boat this year was fun but have two 21lbs steelie hens that I'd take hand over fist. The steelie have just got all the moves weather its rippin line so fast that you wonder if the guy on the oars is gonna ever gain you any line back or having a fish come out of the water at eye level, or laugh the death roll, or laugh :p making your float look like a torpedo coming at the boat as you try to take the slack line off the water before he turns the corner. Big steelies just have all the moves. Add to all that the uncanny knack of finding any wood or sharp edge in the river. Most of the King I've ever gotten are just hard pullers. So I'd take the one with the works please 25lbs.

Gotta love this time of year
Tight lines

Kevin
