Sorry to hear about your loss, Tom. We had one float away on Saturday too, but found out that a buoy and a fender have enough bouyancy to float the pot and a 10lb weight. The whole rig was about 1 mile north of where we dropped it (300 ft of rope in 350 ft of water).


Congrats to those of you who are getting 100 shrimp per pot! The best we've done is about 12. On Saturday, we ended the day with 40. We were just south of Edmonds.

Those of you catching 100 shrimp per pot. How deep are you putting you pots and are you using the standard can of Puss and Boots? I've only been getting about 10-20 shrimp per pot after 3-4 hours at 250 feet.

I mentioned 100 on the first pull, but that was between TWO pots (so up to 50 each) that had been in the water from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. My successful sets have been from 230-250' north of Edmonds.

I literally used everything for bait. I found some rectangular disposable tuperware type containers at Safeway, drilled lots of 1/2" holes in them, and can fit two containers in the bait compartment of my pots. One container in each pot I filled and froze with Puss 'n Boots mixed with some dry Friskies. The other container in the pot I filled with unfrozen P'nB and Friskies with a dose of Herring or Anchovy oil poured over the Friskies. If I had a little P'nB left in a can, I'd just mush in down in the bait area between the two plastic containers. Finally, I had bought a few small bags of Ace of Baits commercial shrimp bait and though it wouldn't fit in my bait area, I just tossed one in the bottom of each pot. On my short sets, I tossed in some oil packed tunafish.

We probably "caught" a few more shrimp than I mentioned, but we're fairly diligent about keeping to the 1 3/16" carapace minimum. I'm kind of curious whether others are throwing some back like we are!

I throw the smaller ones back....I think the regs require it. Plus those little guys just don't have as much meat on them as the bigger ones.

Do most of you use leaded line? I bought a spool of 600' and am thinking of trying to spool it in a tote as opposed to an electrical cord winder... Will be trying shrimpign for the first time this weekend...

Well, I guess that wraps up the shrimping season!

As I read the press release, if I was hardcore, I could still get one more day on Thursday in Area 10 or Area 8-1/8-2. With the heavy tides, I doubt I'll be out.
