This fall, late september my girlfriend and i are planning a camping trip to the canal. I will be bringing my fishing boat also were tent camping. I would like to crab and bottom fish, i was wondering if anyone had tips on a good place to camp and launch and fish. I was thinking of Dosewallips (havent been there since i was a kid) And also any navigational concerns and or fishing tips. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Dose is a good campground, but I would not worry about trying for bottomfish, with a one fish limit and most of them not getting much bigger than a pound or two it really is not worth it. That time a year has lots of salmon in the south end of the canal, not sure if the north end will be open, I think you'll have to be south of Ayock point. Basically troll around between hoodsport and the Skok delta.

Dosewallips is a good place to camp. Hot showers, heated restrooms, I think open year-round.

As far as launching Triton Cove is about 15-20 minutes South of you on 101. The ramp is on the steeper side, but paved and there is a decent amount of parking.

Depending on boat size, tow vehicle and tide, there is a beach type launch tucked back in the corner of Pleasant Harbor. High tide is best on this one, smaller boats and 4x4 (mostly about clearance). Pleasant Harbor is 2 minutes from Dosewallips so mooring the boat is an option.

I don't know much about the bottom fish, but crab are crawling all over the Canal. People crab right outside of Pleasant Harber and I've done well across the Canal to the East. These are just 2 of many good places.

Racerdan, the best place to go to camp and fish is Twanoh state park. Real close to good crabbing, great place to camp. I went there a dozen times as a kid and love that campground. Check this link out.

September is pretty good for coho on buzz bombs at the bend. If you use crab rings the seals (what few are left anyway ) will eat your bait.
