I have been lurking at this site for the past two years now. This is the best site for information and up to date reports. Great site!!!
I am going to take my son age five out to Westport to fish for Lincod/Bottom fish this next Saturday 6/10. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to a good spot. GPS coordinates??
Thanks in advance!!

You could follow out the bottom fishing charters as they go out in the morning. Also if you try the sunken jetty be very careful, especially with your little one. Things can happen very quickly on that spot!

If you have two adults, you could fish the lee side of either jetty, but make sure you have one guy positioned at the helm, with the motor running. Most folks who do this cast directly into the rocks with jigs and work towards the boat from about 20 yards off of the rocks. If it is only yourself and a small one, get another adult or find somewhere else to fish.

If you have a big enough boat, 20'+ and not an open bow, you could "puppy dog" the charters as suggested. You might head north about 10-15 miles, and about 2-4 miles off shore. (Off the mouth of the Copalis River up to Pacific Beach) There are some rockpiles out there. Big water out there, bring a big boat.

Welcome to the board!

MaxMad,FishNgKing and Dogfish thanks for the info. I don't have another adult with me so I guess I wil not be fishing the Jetty. I don't want to put my 17' Arima on the rocks or put myself or my son in a dangerous situation, the fish are not worth the trouble.

Straight out to the goldfish bowl, you should see the round depression on the charts. Run north past ocean shores bout 2 mi offshore and check out the pinnacles you will see them on the charts it's an underwater mountain range. Fish the back sides of the peaks. Check offshore of saddle mtn. Around the Grenville Arches also but it's along run.

Fishin4salmon,
Watch the weather reports real close and you shouldnt have any problems.Your 17' Arima is more seaworthy than alot of the bigger boats out there.I run a 1511 Arima out of westport and have not had any problems at all.I took it 32 miles out last year.I have been out there in my buddys 21' Trophy afew times. And I feel much safer in my little Arima.Be careful and have fun!!

What DB15 said. Watch the wind forcast for afternoons, that can realy sneak up on you. Avoid bar crossings within an hour or two each side of max ebb and you should be fine.
