OK fellas, here's my dilemma:

I picked up a 109 for keeper sturgeon fishing but the handle is tiny. Not small......tiny! Does anyone know if a 209 handle will fit on a 109? And if so, Has anyone got a spare 209 handle they would part with? I'll be happy to pay for the trouble.

Thanks.

call Anglers Den at (425) 226-3049. I forget the guy's name but he works on Penns.

I have 10 of the penn 109's and I use to get gater grip handles for them. I never really did like them either.
I changed them to the handles that the penn ten uses. It works great, I know you will love it.
You can get them at john's sporting goods in Everett. Just make sure you get the nuts and screws that lock the handle in place.

Thanks Bruce.

Sounds like I need to find a PENN 10 handle. I'll call John's.

Hey Eric, I have a bunch of 109s that I use all the time, and a couple of 209s that I use occasionally, but I like the little 109 handle as I run the reel in direct drive to play fish. I also find I can reel faster with a small handle as it's more like what I'm used to on my direct drive steelhead reels. Must have strong wrists or something, never notice any leverage advantage with that big clumsy handle, just pisses me off as I can't wind it fast enough. Anyway, haven't tried putting a 109 handle on a 209, but if it fits I'd be interested in trading you straight across. I'll fiddle with swapping one tonight and let you know beer

Eric,

We used to put the 209 handles on the 109's years ago and it worked. I haven't used the Penns for years but I might have some around. I'll look soon and see if I can find any.

I might have left them all in AK. when I retired last year.

Tried to post a picture of them but can't find the picture posting page since the remodeling to this site. Is it there somewhere? All I get is the dreaded error 404 or something like that.

Hey Eric, got a handle for you off a 209, complete with nut and screw to hold it in. Trade you for your 109 handle and nut, ok? Let me know, and let me know when and where you want to meet - I'm in Satsop but work in Montesano most days, I see you're in Aberdeen so we should be able to get together. Let me know beer

Spawnout and fp,

Thanks for the feedback. Wouldn't you know it, I just got done ordering one from John's in Everette. Oh well.

Spawnout, I'll still swap you the small handle for a larger one if you want. I doubt very seriously I'll be using the small one again and I could use another large handle if I pick up another 109. Shoot me an e-mail and we can arrange a time to meet.

Eric
