I heard a drift boat flipped or sunk right by the Sultan Launch on the opener, anyone hear or see anything?

Did not here about that but thought I would caution drift boaters coming down from high bridge on high flows the the rip raps above sultan is down right knarly right now. If your riding low in the water be extra careful. I had to much weight in the DB last year and almost went for a swim. Its a serious swirling system of sh-t!

It was at Jim's Rock. Dude got his anchor stuck and pulled a little too hard and down it went. It washed up quick though (glass boat). They got wet but seemed to be unscathed. Lesson learned. frown

Big, heavy guy in the back and small, lightweight wife in the front...bad weight distribution.....
It didn't seem to phaze them....bailed it out and were fishing again 45 min later.

When CraigO and I went by they were still bailing...Saw the wife laughing about something...Mine would be kicking my a$$!! Seemed as though they were ok. Maybe just a little bruised ego.

Saw those guys (older man and wife) drying off and getting things together at the sultan launch. Heard one guy say he say it go down. Everyone looked to be alright.

I saw one go down in almost the exact same spot 15+ years ago. Their mistake was both guys getting in back to try to free the anchor and down it went anchor end first. We spent a good portion of the drift picking up what gear floated. I heard they pulled the boat out months later and it was smashed to pieces.

A couple of years ago I almost had the same problem in that area.

I dropped anchor to fish the back eddy at the end of the rip-rap and it got stuck. The river was ripping that day and when I gave it a hard tug the back end came pretty close to going under. I decided I'd rather stay afloat then get my anchor back, so I just cut the rope.

I agree with bossman......cut the rope and forget the anchor. It's alot cheaper than a smashed/lost boat or loss of life.

Another good lesson here is to keep a SHARP knife handy (not in a tackle box) for a quick rope cut. It's something I always do when running questionable water.
