I wanted to start building my own spinners this year. I'm looking for a place to order parts from. there used to be a site b&klures.com but can't seem to find their site anymore. Anyone know a site to order good quality spinner parts? Like silver plate french bades. looking for something besides cabelas

Jann's Netcraft. Get their catalog, pretty much everything you need and pretty fair pricing.

Fishermans shack has a good selection, BC angling Post in Portland does also, but his website doesn't seem to be working right now. And also Mor-Tac.

Most desirable - Pen Tac

Second best - Mor-Tac

Everything else:

Inferior

Side note: Since I've gotten in hot water before for mentioning specific brand names rolleyes negatively, I won't here but if you see color, powder coated spinner blades DO NOT buy them!

No matter how cool they look, do not buy thirty of them. After you use the first two and figure out that they don't spin you'll be left with nothing but heavy metal, usually good but in this case bad.

The spoons on the other hand? What color do steelhead really like again.....?

i build my own spinners, haven't done it in a little while though

usually bought my blades from cabelas, back before i knew about pentac and mortac, those two brands are really the best, but i thought one of them went out of business(?)

i typically take a trip to the craft store, and use those tri lobed beads, that look like salmon roe if you stack them 3 or 4 deep. in fact, i was planning on marketing them about 7 or 8 years ago(this was before i had any means of doing it) since there was nothing out there like them, and lo and behold, a year or two ago i see them being sold in cabelas beathead

i called these ones dolly killers, since i used them almost exclusively on my trip to alaska many years ago, and couldn't keep the dolly varden from hitting them

My favorite winter time spinners have number five bodies w/ a number four blade.

a cheap effective way i found to make spinner bodies is a piece of hollow core pencil lead

All the places recommended are distributors and hence more expensive. Go online and get the names of manufacturers for components. I use about 6-7 different companies and buy in bulk. You can always sell finished spinners/ spoons or components to freinds, etc. Companies like Mor-Tac buy their components, they don't make them. My cost per spinner is about $.30 -.$40 each. I make my own spoons by cutting the metal, filing it and making my own wire rings. Cost is basically the hooks or about $.05 each. When the cost is so low, you can buy in bulk and not worry about losing gear. Shop around - blades one place, clevis's another , hooks another.

The best body (in my opinion) for the #3 blade
is Mortacs 3.5 body. The body is heavier, so the "little" spinner, which is still small enough not to spook summer steelhead on clear days,
can be cast long distances and can also sink quickly. It also does not extend past the blade length, like a #4 body would, allowing for great balance to the spinner. I am a raving
fan of both pentac and mortac, but in #3 sizes
I much prefer the versatility of the Mortacs 3.5 body.

4 blades and bodies and up for me have always worked well just matching blade size to body size,
4 blade to 4 body, 5 to 5 etc... At that that weight size to me, in river fishing, all the made to match components have seemed to work well. however, I am referring to small to medium size river fishing, not the Columbia or salt water.
