Heading over to go fishing with my grandpa tomorrow at Lapush. Any fish being caught? I'm going no matter what the fishing is like, just curious.

thanks

I was there a couple weeks ago for the first time and spent the day practicing boating and navigating with no fishing. However, I have been reading LaPush reports from Salmon University and they say "had to head way north" to get fish. Then I read Neah Bay reports which essentially say "Went 12 miles south of Tatoosh to get fish." I put this together and concluded the good fishing is about 1/2 way up to Cape Flattery from LaPush.

I like LaPush but had my car vandalized and that was disappointing. It is nice not having a bar to worry about.

rock pile is giving up some silvers, head north as they have said to near umatilla reef area, 220-260 ft of water look for bait. troll or mooch your choice. then go into umatilla rock and get bottom fish.

Spent two weeks fishing in Neah Bay, came home last Saturday. Fishing was nothing short of phenominal!!!! Biggest Kings were 30#s. Most decent were around 20 pounds. A lot of blackmouth and silver shakers. The last three days the clear tropical waters came in. We had 4'-6' blue sharks swimming around the boat. They were going from boat to boat to check and see if there were fish on. People on the radio were talking about them getting there flashers and salmon. The bait balls died out and so did the big Kings in the warmer water. The tropical water went clear to land. See my pictures of the sharks and aqua marine colored water. This is between Tatoosh and LaPush.

Here is the address: http://community.webshots.com/scripts/controlPanel.fcgi.

This might not come up right. If not, it is under webshots.com, user name is fishnut1 and look under book Neah Bay Fishing July 2003. There are about 50 photos there. I have been trying to decide whether the water has cooled back off to go back or not. Sounds like Westport is slow. Might try the south sound until reports come in with a thumbs up. It was a great vacation.

Bad news!!!! The water has warmed up even more than a few days ago. See the water temperature chart. Scroll down to see it.

OK another bad link. Use the link and punch up hood canal and puget sound. Then scroll down to see the coastal chart with temperatures. Maybe take a tuna rod instead.

Well we got our limits but they weren't very big. Water wasn't too bad today except for the south wind kicked up a little now and then. Got our bottomfish as well. We were trolling for the salmon with green label herring off of downriggers.

Use the biggest herring you can get. We opened up the bellies on the big kings and they had huge herring in them. Two herring were 11" and 12". I got my last small king (15 pounds) at 170 feet deep in 270 feet of water with black label herring. After this the fish were 7-10 pound blackmouth. We were getting a lot of fish before around 20 pounds with 30 being the biggest. The ocean was a lot cooler then.

We have gone out of lapush the last two nites after work and noticed lots of sharks too. Tonite we caught one about 5 feet long. Now I'm wondering if those four kings we had on last nite and broke off were really just sharks. They stripped line and we couldn't stop them and then bam they would bite off the line. Now it makes since with the sharks. My temp read 60 degrees on the rockpile tonite. Also saw what sure looked like a huge turtle out there too just floating on top of water but went under when we got close maybe lochness monster. Slow fishing tonite one silver couple bites missed.

To helll with the salmon fishing for a while off of LaPush. It is time to get out the Tuna gear. Had been doing very good about 4-5 miles north of Umatilla buoy but as the water warms the fish either head back up north or head into the straits where the water is a little cooler and the bait is. Heading out tonight hopefully catch a blue as they are the best fish and chips you will ever eat.
