Any reports on silvers or pinks from the shoreline on the west side of Whidbey?

Two years ago we had such good fishing it wasn't worth trailering the boat, particularly at the ferry rates, but last year wasn't very productive for my buddy and I.

Sekiu is reportedly hot, so those fish should be showing up on the Whidbey shore soon.

Appreciate any reports.

a few guys I know have been running into some small silvers out there while flyfishing. Nothing in big numbers but maybe 2-4 fish each time out. They have also caught some pinks.
It doesnt look like it has heated up yet but the fish are moving in.

Wednesday - Friday fish were caught. Mostly Pinks, with a few coho scattered in.

Saturday and Sunday have been quiet. I saw one fish landed this morning from the beach and nothing but dog fish for the boats around Bush. I didn't stay for the high tide however.

I would wait a week or two on bringing the boat over, and just fish with the beach crowd, or bring a car topper.

Ditto the above. Fished Bush and Lagoon on Saturday and saw 1 pink and 2 small silvers (probably residents) all day. Most haven't rounded the corner yet.

OK guys, when it does heat up lets bring this thread back to the top. Not like we're talking secrets here!

I expect a bunch of Pinks any day now, but that may be wishful thinking. The family that own Possion Bait said they have had great returns on their returning silvers already.

I am going to go down for an hour tomorrow morning before I head in to work, so I'll let you know what I hear from the daily crew. My school-teacher friend, who has summers off, reported to me that it was more of the same this morning, a few Pinks and a couple small coho.

Hmmm. Not having a boat right now, Bush Pt. looks pretty good. What equipment do you guys use there? The big surf sticks, or are the smaller salmon and steelhead rigs more prevalent?

I would say that about 70% of the people fish buzz bombs, about 15% use bobbers and fresh dead herring, 10% use spoons, 5% flyfish. I use the bobber. Most of the fish are under 10 lbs. and caught within 40 ft. of the beach, so go with the steelhead gear.

Leave the surf sticks behind. Just use your steelhead gear 8 1/2 spinning and casting combos with 12-15# test is all you need. The saltwater can be tough on the fresh water gear so pre-spray with WD40 and rinse with fresh water and WD40 again afterwards.

Bring your sunscreen, lunch, and a cooler and you'll be set.

I will be taking my future brother-in-law (Michigan saltwater salmon virgin) out to Whidbey Fri/Sat to give him a shot at catching a fish or two.

Is there any camping in the Ft. Casey area (RV park), or do I have to make a reservation at South Whidbey state park?

Theres a campground at fort casey and another accross from the dump, and there are 3 near deception pass

I have used a large dink float with a tie on my mainline that lets about ten feet of line out below the bobber.

Is this similar to what you guys use? Can any of you post a picture of your setup?

I run my bobber fixed most of the time, and use about a 5 ft. leader.
Haven't fished the beach yet as I have been doing the Neah Bay thing.
The campground at Ft. Casey is first come first serve so getting a spot there is hit or miss. The campground across from the dump {5 minutes from Casey, just south of Coupeville} is DNR I think, and is supposed to be nice.

A little more action this morning than the past mornings. As usual, things pick up as I am about to leave for work.

Each morning there will be nothing from daybreak until around 6:15 a.m., and then the fish start to show. Shortly after I left and 6:30 my friend landed a 5 lbs. coho and I had seen several fish jump. Looks like a few more have trickled in (along with possibly some resident coho).

Good luck to all you coming over this weekend, I may see you. My brother is coming over from Seattle and I expect to take him out to wet a line.

Maybe I'll see some of you at Bush, however, beware the property owners! The beach is well marked for the start of the new season, so encourage those around you to pick up their trash and use the sanacans.

Where is the closest launch to fish bush pt, can you launch right there. Thanks!

If you are coming across Deception Pass, I suspect Keystone is the best launch to use. (next to the ferry)

There is also a launch in Freeland that is closer to Bush Point, but it does not have a dock and is fairly shalow, so check the tides because on a low tide, the water goes way out beyond the end of the concrete.

It should be marked on the map, you will see it in Mutiny bay. You turn right off Hwy 525 onto Fish Road (Stoplight in Freeland), take left onto Woodard and follow that road down to the launch. That will get you close at least, I think there is a turn I missed right close to the launch there, but I would have to have a map to know what the road is. (might be Lancaster Rd.)

Maybe someone else can add that info in. ? Sorry I cannot be more specific.

When using a bobber, are you guys using live or dead herring?

I use fresh dead. I hauled a bucket of live herring down to the beach at Ft. Casey ONCE. Too much wokk for me!!

I just ask that you hold my hand on the way down the stairs or the steep walkway when going to the beach. Oh wait a minute, I don't need you to do that after all...thought I was Sparkey for a minute there. Yikes! Scary thought
