Does anyone do this with success? I threw some back in the freezer hoping they will be okay. I didn't want to leave them in fridge for a week until I could get out again.

I've frozen eggs for up to a year, then cured them and they worked fine. No noticable difference fishing them either.

I have not had problems doing this, they still catch fish...a lil borax pulls dampness.

I disagree. I would avoid freezing eggs prior to curing them. Curing them will remove much of the excess water and toughen the eggs.

Frozen, uncured eggs will work but freezing them will crack the eggs causing them to milk out very quickly. If at all possible, cure them in something before you freeze them. Lots of folks recommend just rolling them in Borax. But the receipes are endless. Lots of discussion on this topic in the past.

But if you have frozen, uncured eggs, try thawing them in a sugar/salt/borax brine. This will cure the eggs while they thaw. The receipe on this BB is a good one. Good luck.

Spoon Tosser, I have to agree with Coho Angler. It is my understanding that freezing your eggs prior to curing causes the water inside the egg to crystalize, thus puncturing the outside membrane of the egg. I have recieved eggs from people who have frozen them uncured and there is a huge difference. They milk out way to fast and never really dry to a nice tackiness. Boraxing them will help you fish with them if they are frozen prior to curing, however, if you refreeze them expect them to be rocks the next time you thaw them. I recommend using Pro Glow, Pro Cure, etc to cure your eggs prior to freezing. Good Luck!

I think he is talking about refrezzing cured eggs that he went fishing with and had left over.

BW - That's a different story.

Freezing cured eggs is fine. I do that all the time if I have left eggs left over from a trip. But I generally avoid repeated freezing/thawing because the eggs will start to fall apart and get mushy. Even well cured eggs get mushy after several freeze/thaw cycles.

st,
I have re-froze cured eggs with no ill-effects up to three times, and yes still caught fish.
When I re-freeze them I add more borax to take up the empty space in the container, dont know if it really helps but it seems to work for me.
