Scenario: I am fishing at a river where there are 2 separate listings in the regs for trout and salmon.
My question is can I limit on both trout and salmon?
If I can get both limits in one day on the Lewis, I could potentially walk away with 8 fish. ( I would quit when I got either my 3rd trout or my 6th salmon)
Not that this would happen to me, but if the opportunity arose, I would like to take advantage of it.

Here's the catch though,
If you're working on your salmon limit (Typically 6, with no more than 2 adults, unless stated otherwise) I believe that you must stop if you've retained the adult portion. In other words, I don't think it's legal to keep fishing for and keeping jacks once you've bonked the adult portion of your limit.

That's right, 4S. You're done once the adult portion of your limit has been retained.

4Salt and Dan
You're wrong!
If you read what the rules say; "To continue to fish for salmon….." (not other game fish) You must stop fishing for salmon once you have caught your adult limit, but you can still continue to fish for and catch steelhead.

I understand the rules pertaining to stopping after the adult portion is kept. But if the stars aligned just right and the mojo was on my side, I could have a stupendous day!!!!
Naaaah. Not me.

Cowlitz, You musta been in an awful hurry to post that we were wrong 'cause you didn't read my post too good. I said "When working on your SALMON limit..."NOWHERE did I say you couldn't fish for steelhead after you've retained a limit of salmon.

Yeah......what 4S said. You can't keep fishing for 4 more jacks after you bonk your adult salmon limit. You can keep trying for steelhead though.

I don't know, Plunk. It says you cannot continue to fish for salmon after your adult salmon limit has been retained. If you have an SJ on your card after 2 adults on the same day, the gamey probably won't let you slide.
You might beat it in court, though. It says you can't fish for them, there is no language about retaining jacks after the adults have been bonked.

Plunker
You better have a full wallet if you're caught with your adult limit had been filled and then you're seen punching out another jack salmon behind the adult punches! Your own card would be your worse enmity in court. Your own records would prove you to be guilty!

Oh Well... One fish is usually enough for me. Not sure what I would do with 6-8 of them? Break out the canner I guess. Just though it might be fun to broaden the subject a little.

I don't think it's legal to fish for salmon once the adult portion of your limit has been retained. Thanks Plunker! You have concisely asserted what my post was apparently unable to convey! As to the second part of your post, here's another hypothetical scenario for you: Let's say you've retained your daily salmon and trout limit, what do you think the warden would say if you told him/her that you were attempting to fill your limit of whitefish and pea-mouth chub as well?

What would you need 6 salmon and 2 steelhead for anyway??? Before I ate 'em, I'd make sure all my fishin' buds heard about it. In fact, I'd probably put a full page ad in the paper braggin' about my day. I don't expect for this to happen, but you never know. If it does, you'll all know about it.
